I've read that they have abolished the Sure Start grants for people like myself who already have children so what other help is there for people and many others out there in my position

nowt lol. But if your Due date is by and including the 10th april you are still entitled. Mine is 15th so I'm not and I was really counting on it. Have you got any good quality second hand places near you? or some helpful friends..

Ive just recieved my maternity grant. Is it the £500 one ur talking about?

CupcakesHay · 03/02/2011 16:55

Which £500 one did you get clarebear1?

Am i missing something?

clarebear1 · 03/02/2011 17:00

Ive got a £190 one which was a healthy eating in pregnancy one. Got that one end of Dec, midwife said i just got in for that one as theyre stopping it.

The £500 is sure start maternity grant. Have to be on a benefit.

CupcakesHay · 03/02/2011 17:10

Aah - ok. Just checking i wasn;t missing out on something. I'm appalling at figuring out what I am anod i'm not entitled to!

Thanks for the clarification clare Smile

I'm due July 1st so looks like I miss out out by a fair few weeks

I've not heard of the healthy eating in pregnancy one where do I apply for that?

The Healthy Eating in Pregnancy £190 one is the one that's getting stopped, you have to be due before 15th April.

fingerscrossedgirl · 03/02/2011 19:12

I'm due April 19th - the guy on the official helpline told me I'd still get the £190 grant (though it hasn't come through yet). There seems to be confusion about the actual cut-off date - I'd call up to check.

Ems82 · 03/02/2011 19:15

I know I'm way out from the cut off date but I may still fill the forms and apply nothing to lose for the sake of a few mins writing and a stamp

Ems82 - you have to get the midwife/doctor to fill out most of it so they mightn't give you one if you look way out of the likely dates - but on the plus side, there's a freepost envelope! Wink

Ems82 · 04/02/2011 09:42

fingerscrossedgirl Oh well :( at least I think I've another freepost envelope on the side from some junk mail catalogue so I could possibly start a collection

I'm due on the 19th April and I got my HIP grant, so worth applying! There's a mix up because you have to be "in 25th week" by 1st Jan, which could be interpreted as 25-weeks (completed) pregnant (which I wasn't) or 'in the 25th week' (24+something, which I was).

Midwife didn't think I'd qualify but I told her about the confusion and she said might as well send the form off and see what happens. Arrived in my bank a/c a couple of weeks later.
