Baby measuring 2 weeks ahead - will it even out?

Not that it matters really, but although I am 21+6, my baby is measuring almost 24 weeks. I just wondered if babies who are measuring ahead at this stage normally stay ahead or if they tend to even out before the birth?

Just wondered if I am heading for a big baby? Not bothered really as am booked in for a c-sec at 39 weeks, but just nice to know.

I'd like to know too- bump measured 30 weeks at 28 week check yesterday. MIdwife assured me that my body should genetically keep him/her from getting too big but...

Eeks!

My baby has consistently measured one week ahead, (30 weeks now) but I am not letting it worry me. Both myself and my partner are taller than average, so it makes sense that baby will be too, and that my body will be equipped for his size, so I don't expect his growth to 'even out'. I think your midwife sounds sensible kviddy, and any growth outside the 'normal range' will be assessed further (there is leeway either side of average that falls within the 'normal range', or absolute average).

2 weeks either side is considered completely normal. Measuring large, does not necessarily mean that baby is large, most of the time a larger bump is just due to carrying a lot of fluid.

I was measuring 4 weeks out(large) at my last couple of antenatal checks, so was sent for a growth scan- all was fine. I just have a lot of fluid. Baby is measuring within the normal range for its gestation.

Don't worry. Your midwife/gp will be monitoring your bump size, but no need for further check-ups unless you're 3+ weeks out.Smile

I don't see a midwife regularly Leila, long story but I have a weekly ultrasound scan and checkup with an obstetrician. It is defo baby that is measuring ahead, not bump size as she has taken the measurment from his femur length and abdomen. I can't be wrong with my dates either as I had IVF so know almost to the second when he was conceived.

Will have to see how things progress. As I said I am booked in for a c-sec at 39 weeks, but if he decides to come early I will try for a natural birth. Hope he doesn't take after his Dad for head circumference though (Daddy has a very big head!) ouchy!
