I was always a tummy sleeper and have trouble adjusting - especially to the side. I often wake up in the night on my back and whenever I do that I feel my (relatively small 21 week) bump hard and low down - when I move it softens up. What does this mean?!

That you are cutting the blood supply.

I also struggle with the side sleeping. The only way I can manager and ensure I am not doing the baby harm is to stick pillows on both side so I am wedged.

I have a dream genii pillow and that helps with staying on your side. I did used to sleep on my side normally anyway though so not sure it would stop you if you were 'determined' (in your sleep!).
