Acupuncture to help Ovulation/Pregnancy

Hi everyone

Just wanted your knowledge on acupuncture. I'm just recovering from my third mc in a year and feel quiet stressed/depressed about the future. I'm also awaiting AF and have done OPK daily since 14d after mc. I know it can take time for cycles to return and I'm sure the stress of it doesn't help.

Has anyone had a positive result from acupuncture? Any stories welcome.

Thank you

I had acupuncture last year. It was mainly for my asthma, but had also been ttc for a while.
If you're feeling stressed about things, it could really help, so for that alone, I would recommend it.

I have been having acupuncture for the past 2 months. I have PCOS and wanted to try to regulate my cycle ahead of TTC.

I have found it very useful and this month it does seem to have kicked me into a more sensible cycle (34 days rather than 53!)

I also find that it is useful to take an hour to focus on myself and how my body feels. I have also started temping which has been really useful in helping me understand my body much much better.

She is very helpful in giving me advice on eg pressure points to press in order to help bring on ovulation and massage to the abdomen to increase blood flow etc. I also feel physically better for it as well in a way that is hard to describe.

Should have said - I got pg 4 months after starting acupuncture, including 3 months when she advised me not to try as my asthma was pretty bad.

So sorry for your mcs.

Yes, I had acupuncture in the month I conceived for 2 pregs. I don't now if was because of ac. as I was using the clearblue fertility monitor, taking evening primrose oil, vitamins etc. During one session, I could feel waves around my uterus area. After another, I could my ovaries doing something. I suggest you go to a fertility acupuncturist. There are some v good ones in London.

I have had 2 mcs. One at 8 weeks. Period returned 9 weeks after erpc. The second was v v early (around 5 weeks). I conceived 2 weeks after that as ovulation was not affected. The later you MC, the more it messes with hormones.

Thank you everyone

I've just made an appointment (its in two weeks time) to see a lady who specialises in Fertility. She sounded very positive and as faverolles says it will help the stress/anxiousness etc.

I've never struggled in getting pg before. With all pgs I conceived either 1st or 2nd month I just seem to struggle keeping them.

If it puts me in a better place than I am right now then its definately worth a try.

Fingers crossed.
thank you x

Are you taking conception vits? Also have you had your progesterone levels tested?

luckyfor2 · 02/02/2011 15:42

Hi sh77
I haven't had my progesterone levels tested after mc, don't think my GP will do that as its only 4 weeks on Monday (feels much longer) but they say it is normal after mc!

I did take conception vits before my last pregnancy, would that help with Ovulation?

Might be worth asking your GP for blood tests to check your hormone levels in a few weeks (or after you have a period). I too was told no point have any bloods done so soon after MC. Low progesterone can be one reason for MC.

Do you know if you were ovulating regularly before?

I was taking pregnacare conception and also 1000mg of evening primrose oil every day. I think the latter is good for regulating hormones.

I have always ovulated 12dpo (or whenever I ttc and used clearblue opk) but the mc has messed my cycle up. I took the pregnacare conception tabs but never evening primrose. I have just rearranged my acupuncture appointment for tomorrow. She also said that she might prescripe some herbal remedies to regulate me - anyone ever used anything like that?

Hello, sorry for your losses.
I also have had three m/c's in the last ten months.

I started acupuncture a few weeks after my last loss (Sept) to basically help with stress and re-balance my hormones after the losses.

My first session was two hours long, first hour was talking through things and the lady taking history, second hour was the treatment...my conception meridians were all cut, due to to previous c-sections, and she worked on re connecting them.

When I left I felt totally relaxed and quite emotional (in a good way) after talking through the last year.

I continued to have one treatment a week, and by the third session I was pregnant again.
This pregnancy felt alot stronger from the start, I am still going for treatment, but now only once every six weeks.
I'm now 14 weeks Smile.

I really hope the acupuncture helps you, as it did and does me...so people think it's all nonsense, and it may have just been a coincidence with me, but I really believe it made a real difference!.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on X.

Congratulations on getting to 14 weeks and thank you so much for your post its given me some hope.

At the moment I feel like I need something to focus on instead of just waiting for results etc. I hope it helps with everything but even if it helps for the stress/depression and puts me in the right frame of mind that would be great. She did say that it can help with ovulation and mc so I am hopeful, I'll let you know tomorrow after my session.

Thank you

I started having acupuncture to help me conceive my 2nd dc as my cycle was very irregular, often going 6 months between periods. Within 2 days of the 1st treatment I ovulated and with continuing acupuncture and monitoring my cycle I conceived at the 1st attempt.

I also found that treatment helped with morning sickness and with postnatal depression and general wellbeing.

In fact I was so impressed that I am now 1/2 way through a 3 year degree training as an acupuncturist!!

I hope all goes well for you, I think it's really worth a try.

Anytimenow sorry for your losses. I conceived my DS the first month of going to a fertility acupuncturist, after trying for 2.5 years.

My friend went to see the same lady and conceived her first DS after three miscarriages, She recommended it to four friends with various fertility issues and they all successfully had children.

I conceived the first month of trying for a second child (without acupuncture) but mc at ten weeks. Kept trying unsuccessfully for seven months afterwards (not sure why.....lack of cash?). Anyhow went back to the same acupuncturist and conceived first month of treatment especially and now 32 weeks with DC2.

My friend also miscarried twice but has since had DS2 after starting acupuncture again.

So I would say go for it.....as it has been very successful for me and my friend....next time if I want to try for a third I will just start acupuncture from the get-go.....Smile
