So, 3 weeks ago I had sex with an ex. We used a condom but we weren't quite as careful as we should have been (in that there was some unprotected "contact" iyswim) so to put my mind at rest I took the morning after pill approximately 30 hours after the event,

About 5 days after that I came on, much earlier than expected- it was heavy for about a day and trailed off after 2 days. Normally I get pms and period pains and I didn't with this one, although they have been much milder recently due to increased excercise and I could have missed them as I wasn't looking for them.

Last weekend, Saturday morning, had sex again and the condom split (different guy Blush ) although he didn't ejaculate inside me. Got the morning after pill Monday morning, so approx 48 hours later.

I know M.A.P isn't a form of contraception, but this month is the first time I have used it. Am not on any hormonal contraception as I am single, and contrary to what the above may lead you to believe am not very sexually active- these were both quite rare occurences.

To top everything off I am going away with work in 1week's time to a very Catholic country with a terrible record in women's healthcare, and I will be in a hugely remote area so no chance of popping to a chemist's at any point.

Should I test now? By my reasoning, if I test now, I wouldn't be pg by guy no. 2 yet so it would be guy no. 1's. If it is neg and it turns out I am pg later, it will be guy no. 2's.

Or is it worth testing at all? I know you can bleed while pg so was the bleed I had last month a real period or something else?

Any advice gratefully recieved.

I think it's unlikely that you are pregnant. Did you have sex at a fertile time? The MAP is pretty effective, & does mess with your bleeds. I took it once, had a bleed about a week later, then took it again about 2 weeks later (no judgement here!) & had another bleed. I do remember doing a test 2 weeks after that to set my mind at rest though.

TrillianAstra · 01/02/2011 16:28

It's pretty unlikely. But you could be pregnant. Possibly by either guy. MAP is not 100% effective. If you are, DNA test is the only way to tell.

How long will you be away with work?

eejit · 01/02/2011 16:32

3 months, with the chance to stay on longer if I want to. Should I take a pg test with me? If I am it would be disastrous and would mean flying back to the UK asap Sad

Yes, take a pregnancy test with you! Remember your cycles might be delayed with the stress of moving etc. If there is a Marie Stopes International in the country you are going to they will be able to help you if necessary.

Morning after pill is normally very trustworthy. I'd say it's unlikely to be honest.

eejit · 01/02/2011 16:44

Yes, logically I think unlikely too tbh. But the uncertainty and the anticipation of not knowing while I'm away is making me feel very anxious. Is there any point in testing now or will my hormone levels be all crazy from taking MAP, therefore giving inaccurate result?

I would wait and just take a pregnancy test with you, that way you can test at a later date if you have reason to suspect that you may be pregnant.

Firstly don't panic as it's pretty unlikely. Take a couple of pregnancy tests on your travels and take them there.

Here's a clue, it gives a good idea of when (in the unlikely event of pregnancy), but try to remember if and when you remember seeing any white egg-like stringy discharge as that'll be when you ovulated, would give you an idea of timing.

Keep your mind open and relaxed as you can be, it's very likely you're not pregnant but if you are don't jump to crisis thinking there's a lot of feelings and details to work out if and when the time comes.

Let's us know how you get on.

beckie90 · 01/02/2011 17:15

its unlikely but, if you had already released an egg when u had unprotected sex then morning after pill wont stop you getting pregnant, its only if you havent released one that it stop your ovaries releasing an egg in the meantime iyswim, as you can get preg for upto 7 days after unprotected sex. this happend with me i took it after having 1 unprotected time with my partner, but still ended up preg as id already released and egg before taking the MAP. but it does sound very unlikely that your pregnant, but take a test with you just incase

Thanks everyone. Think Internet access will be pretty limited out there so don't know if I'll be able to update, but if you don't hear from me no news is good news!

Just keep your mind open sometimes what seems like the worst news turns out for the best.
