Baby Kicks

well i'm 22 weeks pregnant, baby has been nudging me here and there over past couple of weeks although not that often. On Sunday there was a lot more nudging but not much over the last 2 days, although i went to a very loud concert last night and it was flickering a bit (the noise must have woken it up or it didn't like the music!). is this normal? how often should it be kicking and should it be regular?

Mine wasn't regular until 26 weeks or thereabouts - i.e. not predictable amounts. After it became regular, I understood that you should try to count 10 kicks in 24 hours and if it's below that, then call your midwife.

Baby has never been hugely regular though i.e. last night he was completely still at midnight, the night before he kept me up for ages.

Could you have an anterior placenta? I do and haven't been feeling a great amount of kicks but m/w said I should apparently feel a lot more after 30 weeks. Check out your hospital notes from your 20 week scan, my sonographer didn't mention it to me at the time but DH noticed it was on my notes when we got home...

Same as ng, I mentioned to the midwife at my 24/25 week scan that I wasn't feeling much movement but apparently I have an anterior placenta as well - failed to notice that on my 20 week scan notes but thought they would tell me!

Anyway am now 29 weeks to the day and am feeling v regular movement, can even see movement below the surface at times and DH has felt some too.

According to the books (!) you should start to notice a pattern of when the baby is awake and asleep but I haven't been organised enough yet to think about it. Maybe once I start mat leave Smile

Hello humph123, I'm 24 weeks, placenta at the back (whatever that's called) and still don't get much movement. I'm hoping for a nice easy baby Smile as my 1st wasn't a great kicker and has always been very laid back Smile.

thanks for your comments.
I've checked my notes and it says placenta posterior. what does this mean? i'm prob just being a bit paranoid.

At 22 weeks, regardless of where your placenta is, your baby still has lots of space to move around and so you might not feel lots of big movements for a good few weeks yet. You only really feel proper kicks when it's kicking you rather than kicking about in its own space IYSWIM. I remember going for my 20 week scan and baby was doing somersaults and kicking all over the place and I just couldn't get my head around the fact that s/he could be doing all that and me not even know!

So I don't think you have anything to worry about, you'll be getting lots of movements soon. Once you've started to feel lots of bigger regular movements, then it's easier to spot if there is a change in them, and they say after 28-30 weeks that if you notice a lessening in movements or feel less than 10 a day, then call your MW, but up to that point, I just don't think it's that regular for everyone.
