Best place to buy raspberry leaf tea?

Can any one recommend a good place to buy this, either online or a UK wide chain store? I want good quality tea but don't want to pay the earth!

Also, when did you start drinking it? I was going to start from 32/40, though lots of people say 37/40.

Your local heatlh food shop may surprise you & be the cheapest? Ours are.
Don't start drinking it until at least 36/37 weeks as it can bring on labour.
I preferred the tables as I just couldn't stomach the tea.

I think it definitely helps to shorten the 2nd stage of labour & will be taking it again this time.

Health food shop. I got mine from an independent, but I'm sure Holland and Barrett or similar would stock it.

propercrimbo · 01/02/2011 10:49

I got mine from H&B

There is zero evidence to suggest that it can bring on labour as it is taken to prepare your uterus, not start contractions. Some people advocate drinking it from 28/40 and 32/40 is commonly advocated by midwives and health food stores!! Then others contradict it, but as far as I can gather that?s because they fear it could start labour (yet ore often than not, they seem to be the midwives who poo poo its benefits anyway!).

The nicest tasting one I've found is from www.birthease.co.uk under pregnancy essentials. It tastes much more like raspberry than others I've found. My health food store only sells it as an infusion and I prefer the ease (and taste) of these tea bags! Started drinking at 36 weeks on midwife's advice.

Is it possible to use the fresh rasberry leaves with hot water ?

BelieveInLife · 01/02/2011 12:32

I took both from 32 weeks. IIRC several cups of tea and 4 tablets a day. Result...4 hour labour, v quick recovery.

Tesco!! Why pay over the odds for it, £1.69 from Tesco for 20 tea bags. (I hope that link works as I had to log in to find it).

I started at 33 weeks as I was too lazy to trek up to the big tesco at 32 weeks and my local little tesco doesn't stock much.

cookingfat · 01/02/2011 12:41

My midwife said not to start before 36 weeks.
I get it from H&B - the Clipper ones are especially nice.

beckie90 · 01/02/2011 12:56

my midwife said 37 weeks to me, but ive been doing some research on it today, and everything says it doesnt bring on labour, and many women drink it all way through pregnancy. im gonna start drinking it as ive read it can also prevent a pph, which i had last birth.
im getting mine from holland and barret :)

£1 at Tesco at the mo. It's minging though and hasn't done anything for me at 40 weeks and last time I started drinking it a 37 weeks or whenever they recommend it..... Not convinced it did anything? I wouldn't bother!!

Moominsarehippos · 08/03/2013 16:43

I would go to a herbalist (like Neals Yard) to make sure you get good stuff and you can ask them about when and how much to take.

milkyjo · 08/03/2013 16:48

I buy mine from tesco with the weekly shop. Its the clipper organic one with unbleached bags. If I had to go elsewhere I probably wouldn't bother. I am sure its the same to use fresh raspberry leaves. I've got raspberry bushes but there are no leaves there yet!

Flisspaps · 08/03/2013 17:09

I'd hope the OP has has her baby now, this thread's two years old!

Radiator1234 · 08/03/2013 17:19

Lol oh yes!! This was at the top of the page. Too funny !

Moominsarehippos · 08/03/2013 17:20

Do you think? I'm just off to check the Guinness Book of Records to make sure.

ButteryJam · 08/03/2013 19:53

Which week is raspberry leaf tea recommended from?

Is there a non-warm alternative to raspberry leaf tea? I find it difficult to drink warm drink Blush

KelleStar · 08/03/2013 23:29

Buttery you can buy capsules instead. Holland and Barrett stock them (good for post natal too) or alternative health stores too. I've not got a chance of a hot drink with a toddler in tow, so capsules are working, 30 weeks and onwards, though advice varies.

ButteryJam · 08/03/2013 23:31

KelleStar, thank you! Will make a trip to Holland and Barrets :)

Do they by any chance affect the digestive system?

Maggie111 · 09/03/2013 21:47

Told today at NCT classes you shouldn't take it before 36 weeks.

beckie90 · 09/03/2013 22:42

Just realised I commented on this back when the thread was made, I drank 2 cups from 30 week, then increased very gradually, I didn't go into labour early as some fear it does. I went into labour on my due date and had my lil boy 5 days later with 2hrs of pushing and assisted delivery, he was back to back. No pph though yay. So didn't seem to have much of an effect with me given ds1 labour was only 4hr and only 5 min pushing (no tea) but I'm still going to drink it this pregnancy after 32wks, see if theres any joy this time.
