Is there a reason why I can't use a pillow case instead of a sheet on my moses basket?

Wasn't quite sure whether this is quite a pregnancy question, but hopefully someone will know the answer.

Had what I think is a genius idea of using a pillowcase in place of a moses basket sheet for moses basket - have tested it out and it fits well - tucks into all the corners etc. Is there any reason why this shoulcn't be done? there are so many rules about these things and I dont want to accidently do anything terrible...

I used a pillowcase as the bottom sheet by putting the mattress inside it, worked fine for me but no idea if it is recommended or not!

TheArmadillo · 30/01/2011 10:06

it will be fine. good idea.

PinkElephant73 · 30/01/2011 10:08

Yes is fine and a good tip as newborns tend to wee/yack up on their sheets with annoying frequency. Plus their hair can rub off on the sheets too - aw!

hoolabombshell · 30/01/2011 11:51

I heard they were fine so went to Primark and bought a couple of 2-packs of plain white pillowcases. Job done!

Good idea, muslin cloths are also good for laying on top of moses basket sheets if baby is being a bit yacky Grin

My granny recommended this for DS pram matress 9 years ago. Worked perfectly.....don't know what the 'rules' say.

WanderingSheep · 30/01/2011 12:00

Yep, it's fine! I also used a pillowcase as a blanket for DD when she was born as it was far too hot for blankets. Just make sure that everything is tucked in so that they can't pull anything over their heads and you'll be fine!

great idea!

thanks for the tip.

ShowOfHands · 30/01/2011 12:13

I always put the mattress in a pillowcase! Mades sense to me.

Georgimama · 30/01/2011 12:15

What a genis idea. Never occurred to me before.

Julezboo · 30/01/2011 17:28

Tis what I'm doing and we are currently in hospital and its what they do for the little fish bowl cots DS3 sleeps in! So I cant see why it would be a problem!

chrisrobin · 30/01/2011 17:32

We always did this, we had a plentiful supply and it cost nothing.

dribbleface · 30/01/2011 20:46

What a great idea, why didn't i do that with my 1st! Will be doing it this time round

snowangels1 · 31/01/2011 07:56

Horrah, I'm becoming such a tight stingy frugal person when it comes to baby stuff as everything seems to expensive for what it is.

Am also thinking about putting a hand towels under the pillowcase as a preventative for nasty bits to escape onto mattress - hope that's OK too, and love the tip on the muslins too btw Grin

Brilliant idea! And def gonna be a saver if i have a pukey little baby (please god, i won't!)

bumparoo · 31/01/2011 08:05

i first tried this after spending a fortune on crib sheets only to get to hospital and see that they used pillowcases, i havnt brought another crib sheet since, and i used normal sheets on the cot as cot sheets are twice the price! im 24wks wiv no4 and will be doing the same this time around xx

nannyl · 31/01/2011 08:57

what a fab idea

it had never crossed my mind, but i have lots of spare white egyptian cotton pillowcases so they can be my moses basket sheets Smile
