Bleeding for a week but +ve preg test

Bit of a long story but here goes:

I have v irregular periods so when I had my first baby we used ovulation tests which worked straight away. This time round I started testing last sunday and it was immediately +ve despite being A LOT earlier than expected. Continuted testing and had 5 consecutive +ve tests. Also had some light bleeding which started last sunday and is still going on a week later - not as heavy as period but quite bright red and mucusy (sorry!).

Did a pregnancy test yesterday thinking it would prob be too early to tell but just thought I would and it was positive! Rang docs re bleeding and they said to sit tight and see what happens as too early to scan. HAve had cramps etc too which I also had when pregnant with son but the bleeding is really worrying me - anyone had similar experiences??

Firstly, congrats on your pregnancy.

Sometimes you can get implantation bleeding in early pregancy. Is there a local early pregnancy unit you can visit? They would do an early scan and make sure everything is ok.

I'm not sure if it's too early to do a scan?

they can do one at about 6 or 7 weeks I think.

If you got a BFP yesterday, would that mean that you ovulated 2 weeks ago..so you would be 4-5 weeks pregnant? I'm not sure how that correlates to the ovulation tests being postive tho. Hopefully someone with a bit more know-how will come along and help with that bit! Smile

I know - that's what's confusing me. Apparently ovulation tests can show up positive when you are pregnant so it may be that I was already pg when I did the ov test. I have an appointment scheduled with GP on thurs so am thinking I might sit tight and wait to see what happens between now and then. Its just a constant worry though and am trying not to get my hopes up!

I had implantation bleeding, but I also bled when my pregnancy was ectopic.Sad

Sorry to worry you, but please be on the look out for shoulder pain along with the cramping.

I did repeatedly test -ve with my EP though.

Did another test this morning and still strongly positive. Cramping seems to have lessened but bleeding still there although no worse I don't think. Confused

I had bleeding for 6 days 2 wks after ovulation and assumed it was a period. However the blood was more liquid than normal with no clots and it stopped very suddenly. Shortly after, I had some weird symptoms and got a bfp which stuck.
Its a horrible thing to be told to 'wait and see' but thats all you can do really until perhaps you can get an early scan at 6 wks.
Good luck
x

Thanks Jasmine - that's pretty much what mine's like. Still there but will see how it goes in next couple of days.xx

Ok now am really confused. Did a digital test and it says I am 3+ weeks since conception. The first day of my last period was exactly 3 weeks ago so how does that work??x

Officerswife, I think you need to see your GP. Possibly your last period was implantation and you are further along than you think. Like Queen LaQueefer, I had an ectopic and with mine I had BFNs, bleeding and then a BFP. So I always think that bleeding in pregnancy should be checked out at an EPAU.

The 3 weeks thing may mean that you are further along than you think or it might mean that CBD tests are not exactly reliable. No way of knowing without a scan, so push for one. They can at least confirm whether the pg is in the right place well before 6 weeks, obviously you wouldn't see a hb that early.

I hope everything turns out fine.

Thank you for all your advice. Have spoken to out of hours GP and she's referring me for a scan. Fingers crossed all ok x

That's good, best to find out what's going on. Hopefully everything will be fine. Let us know how it goes.

Went to hospital and they've done blood tests - get results tomorrow and then they will decide whether or not I need a scan straight away if the hcg levels are suffcient, or if I need to have more blood tests in a couple of days to see if hcg levels are going up or coming down. Had an examination and, although hasn't ruled it out, she doesn't think it's ectopic (although might be too early to tell). Hopefully will find out this week. Glad I went though - I think the sitting at home wondering and worrying is the worst thing!

I think in the first 6-12 wks of pg someone does something to the clocks....every hour seems like a day and every day is like a week! There always seems to be something to stress about and some kind of test to wait for...and time just seems to stand still. Its so tough. I hope you get some good results tomorrow and go on to a lovely trouble free time from now on! x
