Can I ask what your reaction was, when you discovered that you were pregnant?

Yup lay down on the bathroom floor in shock. Dh had to haul me onto the bed. Sounds a bit dramatic doesn't it?! :) I was freakin excited. It just had to sink in.

missjulie · 28/01/2011 01:56

REALLY excited! Was a much wanted thing!!! After staring at my DH for what seemed like an eternity (prob just about a minute), i threw my arms around his neck, kissed him, and then phoned my BF in Oz!!!

(Hoping, am i stalking you?!! Hope you are ok! xx)

Oneof4 · 28/01/2011 07:42

I don't think I let myself think about it properly for a while - I concentrated more on how pleased my DH was as it was too big for my little brain to digest.

BigBabyBoots · 28/01/2011 07:50

Shock. I couldn't speak for a few hours. And then absolute terror. I was really surprised by my reaction - we'd been trying for ages but when it happened I didn't feel excited, I felt terrified and overwhelmed! Over that now though Smile

Jojo1983 · 28/01/2011 08:35

I was shocked, DP was even more shocked than me. Think he still is a week on!

stegasaurus · 28/01/2011 09:44

Shock and amazement, because it had taken many many negative tests to get to that point. I had mentally prepared myself to be disappointed again so couldn't quite believe it was true. The happiness and excitement came a bit later after I had got over the surprise.

Mum2Pea · 28/01/2011 09:52

Soo excited!
Let DH see the results before I did, he was sitting in bed and literally banged his head back into the wall in shock!
So there was me watching this drama and still not knowing!
But both of us were sooo excited and spent the day with my family who didn?t know so couldn?t say anything, but kept giving each other silly little grins whenever we thought no-one was looking!

SerenaJoy · 28/01/2011 11:00

Another shocked one here! Didn't believe the test, and had to go and buy a fancy digital one before I actually accepted it was true.

Like BigBabyBoots I was also scared, overwhelmed and worried we'd made a mistake. I was really surprised to feel that way, as we'd been trying for a few months, but it passed - I'm 20 weeks tomorrow and still scared, but happy and excited as well.

Wishinandahopin · 28/01/2011 11:06

Sorry to barge in like this! It is my birthday today. Period due Monday. Took 4 day early superdrug test today-with FMU: came up negative. Can I trust it and drink tonight? Or is there a slim ( very much wanted ) chance that I am pregnant? I hope you wonderful ladies can share your thoughts and experiences. No symptoms of AF or pregnancy at the mo. TIA x

Smiler80 · 28/01/2011 11:27

Hi Wishinandahopin - happy birthday!

I personally happily drank away until I got my BFP. I would not say you can put your complete trust in such an early test, but IMHO I don't think one night out on the town would make much difference even if it turned out you were preggers. Enjoy your day I would say!

Smiler80 · 28/01/2011 11:30

kittypocket I was pretty shocked as well: we had only been off contraception for a month (wouldn't even call it TTC) and I really did not feel pregnant.

Not that I knew what it would feel like of course...

Then I couldn't really believe it would be viable because I kept having period pains and thought my period would start any moment. Only when I found out that it's common to feel like that I started to believe it. Then slowly the excitement and delight started to creep in! :)

Greenmantle · 28/01/2011 11:40

A mixture of shock, delight and fear!

SerenaJoy · 28/01/2011 12:48

Oh, and I'm still carrying my mooncup around with me, because I've got this weird idea that if I take it out of my bag and leave it at home, something will go wrong. Daft I know, but as it's 'worked' so far, I have to continue with it now!

Hmm

Happy birthday Wishinandahopin, and good luck!

HopingForAZoo · 29/01/2011 16:22

Oh hi julie...im good. dunno are you stalking me? Wink naw im kidding. I should have said...I am not pg right now. That was my first baby. Ill write again about me reaction if I get pg again soon though. Grin

thefurryone · 29/01/2011 16:49

Total shock. I thought my period was late because I was really stressed about work and only took the test to stop myself using worrying that I might be pregnant as a displacement activity. That the test might be positive had never even crossed my mind!

lilly13 · 29/01/2011 17:00

a bit in a disbelief (primarily because i was turning 35 and we only tried a couple of times, and had many friends my age who tried for years without any luck, so my expectations were quite low)... i was really really excited, though!!!!

kittypocket · 29/01/2011 17:02

Would you mind if I used your comments with the question I asked earlier in my studies for an MA. Its in multi disciplinary print and I am basing my study on the social identity of motherhood.

Of course I wouldnt dream of using it if you prefer me not to, but if you're ok with it would you also consider commenting on how you coped with being a mother for the first time and how different was it, from life before motherhood?

As yet I am not totally clear as to how I will use them, but when I have I will let you know. Until then thank you for your help, I really do appreciate it.

Nervous, shocked and 'did i mean for this to happen, oh fuck this is crap timing, how am I going to tell DH, is this really real?'

You can use that Grin

I'm still partially in denial and this baby is very much wanted! It's just a big thing to digest.

lilly13 · 29/01/2011 18:01

if pregnancy presumes being a mother, then 1) love it as life has a new and better meaning; 2) have a greater sense of responsibility and stop being selfish as the utter focus is on the wellbeing of the life growing inside. hope this helps.
