Hi all,

Can anyone reccommend a book I could read with DS (almost 4yrs old) to explain about me being pregnant and having a baby?

Thanks!

We've got "There's a house inside my mummy" here and also "What's inside your tummy mummy" here which goes through what is happening with the baby week by week. My nearly 4 yr old DT's are fascinated by the fold out baby at the end. Both were recommended to me from someone else on here.

We used "Theres a house inside my mummy" for all our dcs when a new bubs was on the way (got 4!) Deffo recommend. One I would avoid like the plague is "Mummy laid an egg" by Babette Cole - way tmi for this age group - thankfully I read through it before showing it to ds1 Shock

I really liked the picture books "The New Baby" by Annie Kubler. No words, but beautiful drawings and gives you plenty to talk about together. The older child is nicely unisex so it works for boys and girls!

One is before the baby arrives, and the other is after the baby has arrived.

My then two year old loved them but I am sure a four year old (as she is now) would love them too.

Another vote for "What's inside your Tummy Mummy?" My 4yr old loves it.

Thank you for those recommendations. I have ordered a few of your suggestions from Amazon today.

My DS likes My mummys tummy house (I can't remember the exact title but probably one of the ones mentioned above).

He also really likes the Usbourne experience book, The New Baby. We are reading it a lot and explaining to him as we go along how it is going to be for him too. It is a very nuclear family one though, mum, dad, 2 children, third on the way and grandparents to come and stay. As its what is almost going to happen with us, its a good book but I know on some of the reviews, people who didn't fit the 'typical family' (although there is no such thing now) didn't think it was quite so good.

I do really recommend the Usbourne experience books though. We also have the dentist one and DS loves it.

There's a house inside my mummy. My 3.5yr old loved it.

If anybody wants a copy of 'there's a house inside my Mummy for free, PM me your address and I'll send it on Monday - have a brand new one, still in it's amazon packaging, gathering dust in my drawer at work :)
