Slap cheek in pregnancy

I need some help and hope mumsnetters may be able to assist.
I'm 13weeks pregnant.
I have a rash on both cheeks which is very red and scaly also very hot.

Went to out of hours doc last night and doctor suggeted pos allergic reaction to something. Have taken 3pirotin and no let up in symptoms, the doc was also not a pregnancy specialist.
I work with children and i am concerned that i may have slap cheek which i know can be dangerous for baby.

I have researched and it seems to be quite unusual for adults to get the symptoms. I have also never had the childhood diseases like chicken pox etc. Any advice would really be appreciated.

Sorry you are feeling unwell and worried.

Did you mention to the doctors about slap-cheek (parvo virus)? Let them know your concerns and they will run a blood test. If the clinic has all your bloods from you booking appt they can check this.

IIRC 60% of adult population is immmune having already had the virus usually in childhood and while there is a risk to unborn baby - it is relatively low if serious - I seem to remember.

I was exposed in pregnancy and had my blood checked but was already immune.

Good luck.

Thank you, i did and he said ' oh yes it does look a little like that doesn't it' as if it hadn't occured to him which left me a little worried.

Im quite keen to see a midwife who actually deals with pregnancy issues all the time to check. I think your right I will go tomorrow and request a blood test.

Thanks again

OK - hope all is well. I would call beforehand to let them know your concern. I turned up at my GPs and told the doctor I'd been exposed to the virus and she came out from behind the desk revealing she was 6 months pregnant and said 'I'll have to have my blood tested now as well'... Smile

Good luck - thinking of you.
