Craving MINTS all the time..Is something up??

I am 27 weeks and for the past few weeks I have been having huge craving for mints.Confused

I am wondering whether this is a 'normal' craving during pregnancy??...I did a little bit of research today and a few websites showed links between mint carvings and low iron.

I know that it's stupid to Google, but I want to make sure that my body isn't craving this for a reason.

Should I get checked out??

You are probably craving it because you have indigestion. Don't worry.

Either that or you will shortly give birth to a polo mint.

Grin I know my post probably sounds silly...but this craving is so strongConfused and I don't want to ignore any signs that my body may be lacking in something.

if your 27 weeks you'll be having a blood test next week anyway that will check your iron levels so try not to worry. X

leila I craved mint when I was pregnant with DS. I was slightly anaemic but I think it was just a craving and not linked. But like scouseem says you'll be having your bloods checked in a week or so.

FoxyRevenger · 27/01/2011 19:36

I dunno but I craved minty chocolate when I was pregnant....Grin

NeedToSleepZZZ · 27/01/2011 19:38

Another mint craver here, has to be extra strong mints and 2 at a time. Might be something in the iron levels as I was/am anaemic from my 28 week blood tests. Are you in the UK as you'll have these tests soon if so.

At least you'll have nice breath - my craving is wotsits! Yuk.

catinthehat2 · 27/01/2011 23:14

you must have turned into a pony, there is no other reasonable explanation

Bit of a fraud as I am not pregnant (sob) but mother to beautiful 6 month old DD - thought it might be worth adding that Pica (abnormal cravings) can start much later in pregnancy. I did not start until about 30-ish weeks when I got a strong craving for mints (was obsessively brushing teeth, even - yeuk - eating toothpaste and getting this vile mint herbal drink) but by about 36 weeks was deliberately washing the windcscreen to get a whiff of the cleaner, inhaling and gently tasting mint shower gel and even licking a soap. I am not joking. I knew I was mad even as I was doing it! So maybe the start of Pica? All seems well as long as you don't actually drink screenwash Grin

I always craved mints - superstrong ones. The ones from m&s hit the spot.

TCOB · 27/01/2011 23:20

Just realised - I was severely amaemic too, down to 7.2 Hb by 39 weeks. But at least this will come up at your next check and you can just take iron tablets. Good luck!

woodchuck · 27/01/2011 23:23

i craved mints too, anything from toothpaste to polos to kendal mint cake...and this wonderful chocolate from thorntons which had crispy mint bits in it.....yum

I did have bad heartburn , especially with pg 1, and wondered if maybe the peppermint was allieviating the indigestion

Leilababyno1 · 28/01/2011 12:21

Hummnn thanks guys, gives me something to think about. I am vegetarian, so there is a stronger chance that I may have low iron/anaemia. Oh well, midwife will do my bloods next week and we will see what happens.
