Hi All,

I am 16 weeks and have an ectopic pelvic kidney, knew i had it prior to falling pregnant however it was clearly spotted during my 12 wk scan

I was just wondering if anyone else has this or knows of anyone else who has had this?

I am worried if i am going to experience problems later on in my pregnancy!!

Thanks

Hi. I have been for my scan today at 12 weeks and they have discovered a pelvic kidney. They said not to worry and that a more in depth scan and second opinion will confirm the diagnosis. I have no idea what this means but have read some women saying they will have to have a c section as a result. I will ask when I go for another scan on Wednesday.

Hi All

Just wondering how you all got on? Does your pelvic kidney affect you? Just found out my baby girl has one - she is due soon.

Thanks

Hi @Lina, I have just been told at my 20 week scan that my baby has a pelvic kidney and we’re currently awaiting another scan- worried sick! How is your baby doing now? Hope you and baby are doing well x

@Lina19 @Lou5290

How did your babies get on? I just found out that my baby has one as well, but she isn't due until January. Did it cause any problems for your babies?

@Lou5290 @ImmyMc

Hi everyone
My daughter is now 2 and doing well. After we were told about her pelvic kidney at the 20 week scan we had many scans after that and it turned out the other kidney was lower down as well and potentially fused, no dilation seen. Each scan we went to we felt like we were told a different thing about the kidneys location. I think it's hard to see on scans. Since birth we have had a couple of ultrasounds to try and see what kind of renal setup she has but again not that easy to see, kept getting different opinions so we are awaiting a dcma scan for this. Aside from that she had a blood test at birth to test kidney function which was normal and has been on a low dose of antibiotics to prevent infection. Thankfully she hasn't had any. Hopefully she will come off the antibiotics once we have the dcma scan. She is a very happy toddler. I hope that your babies are all fine and hope this message helps in some way. It was stressful during pregnancy but felt better once she arrived and doing well X @Lou5290 sorry I didn't get a notification of your message. Hope all is well X

Hi @ImmyMc my little girl is now 11 weeks and has had two ultrasounds to check out her kidney- her left one is in the right place and has got bigger to compensate and the paediatrician isn’t worried at all. Based on the scan she’s querying if her right kidney has been hiding behind her bladder (previously couldn’t see it at all on scans) so the DMSA scan in Feb will tell us more. But overall, no worries at all in the kidney department :) hope you are ok x

@ImmyMc sorry I meant dcma scan, not DMSA.. still learning! Just read @Lina19’s post and interestingly we weren’t given antibiotics for our little girl, all seems fine though. I did monitor her urine output very closely in her first few weeks (I’m sure all parents do anyway!) to make sure she was feeding effectively and her kidneys were producing enough urine as we had issues with breastfeeding in the early weeks. If you have any questions please feel free to ask!

Thanks, both! Very reassuring to know!
