Baby measuring 4 weeks small at 36 weeks

I had my 36 week midwife appointment today and midwife told me that there has been no growth since my 33 week appointment, when I measured 32cm. She wanted to book me in for a growth scan for tomorrow or Friday but couldn't get through so now I will have to wait till next week likely. Has anyone else had a similar low measuring and had to wait for a scan?

At 40 weeks, I was measuring 4 weeks small. Was sent for emergency scan the next day, which showed amniotic fluid volume had dropped and baby's growth had slowed. I was induced the next day as placenta was no functioning well. In my case, the tape measure method was correct but there are countless stories where it wasn't accurate and baby was measuring fine.

I would say look out for leakage and change in baby's movements. If baby's growth has slowed, they may well suggest induction.

Good luck.

I was totally panicked by the same news but I just hadn't been measured well. My doctor (who I rushed to in hysterics) coldn't believe they still do the measuring tape test as it's known to be so innacurate. I had a growth scan & it was fine. My DD was small at birth (just under 6 lb) but not majorly so. Good luck. x

I'm going through the same thing at the moment- stressful, isn't it? I've had 2 scans so far, one to measure the baby at 35 weeks, and one yesterday, at 36 weeks, to check the placenta.

I've got to go back in next week for another growth scan, and consultant appointment. So, basically, I won't know if there's anything wrong with the baby's growth until 3 weeks after the midwife first noticed there might be a problem. I'm torn between convincing myself that everything will be fine, and getting myself into a huge panic.

Hope everything goes well with you. Feel free to PM me if you want someone to talk to who is in the same boat Smile

Hi all,

Thanks for your messages, yes Janpa every time I go to midwife she seems surprised by size and remeasures and makes the measurement bigger then first reading but this time she couldn't make it any bigger. But it just shows how unreliable the tape test is! Anathema, I have messaged you. Thanks for your story sh77.

Good luck to Janpa and Anthema x
