OMG 36 week growth scan and baby measuring MASSIVE - help!

growth scan today says baby is around the 95th percentile for most measurements (very slightly below) and off the scale for abdominal circumferance. Yikes! They have estimated her currently to be 8 lbs 13. I know weight estimates can be off but surely the measurement bits are pretty accurate (??).

I'm a bit scared now - I have to see a consultant tomorrow and I'm not sure what they'll say - I assume they will recommend an induction (or possibly csec??) but not sure how soon it will be required and if there will be any choice between csec/induction (not sure which is better/worse) and have no idea if it might be a 'you must have an induction tomorrow' type of thing or they will leave it for a week or so.

Anyone had any experience of this type of thing?? Confused

I measured exactly average on all my measurements with ds, he ended up being 9 lb 15 which gave me a bit of a shock!! Exactly same set of measurements with dd who was only 7 lbs something (I should remember this shouldn't I? Blush) So definitely not an exact science. Good luck with consultant.

This is interesting. I had me DS who is now 5 estimated at 11lb he cam eout at 8lb. Im now 30 weeks pregnant and this baby is looking to be 10lb so far im a bit worried but then it will happen when it happens and we will see! I can see why your worried. Im sure if there were any problems the medical staff would spot it. If your seeing a consultant then im sure he/she would say something. Try not to worry Grin

hmmm, well, I've been told that they don't induce before 38 weeks ever (unless really really essential) and they may well leave me until 40 weeks but not let me go over. I feel a bit left though as they are just giving me a scan in 2 weeks and deciding what to do then - 2 weeks baby could grow an awful lot still - it's only in the past 3 weeks that this growth has got out of hand so another 2 weeks and goodness knows how big she'll be!

just want to add that my 9 pound baby fed well, slept well and never got sick. Those extra rolls really help them health wise. I would prefer a large baby over a small one anyday!

Leilababyno1 · 27/01/2011 14:17

I am having a growth scan tomorrow as I have been measuring large for the past month (4 weeks out). I will be 27 weeks this Saturday.

It's my first baby and not really sure what to expect. Obviously the sonographer will measure the baby, but will he predict an approximate birth weight at this stage??

snowangels1 · 27/01/2011 14:25

Not sure at 27 weeks leila. I got some measurements and a little chart to show how it compares to 'average' at that point and an estimated weight for that day, not estimated at point of birth. I think from that they can see if baby is large/small for your dates, so assume you will have something similar. Sure the sonographer will explain it all to you though.

DS was measured as slightly big - he was 10.75lb when born at 40+5

DD was also measured as fine for dates, she was born at 38 weeks at 7.13 so a good weight.

As someone previously said women's bodies are pretty good at giving birth.

I am 37 weeks +2 and measuring on the 95th but I have my consultant on Wednesday , what will happen at my appointment ?x
