blood infection

I'm 8 and a half weeks pregnant and have just been diagnosed with a blood infection (started from my finger and "tracked" all the way up my arm down my back and chest- ouch) it hurts and aches but the redness hasn't spread.
I went to the doctors and they gave me a course of antibiotics but this morning I woke up feeling much worse and they pain had spread, was violently sick (lots of bile - sorry tmi) but put it down to being pregnant, then I tried to eat some toast but threw that up too - noticably not like I normally would being pregnant but in an "ill" way...
Went back to the Docs and he's given me two different antibiotics and some anti throwing up drugs but what I really wanted to know was if the baby was ok - he told me as far as he could tell it would be (not experiencing bleeding or anything)

Im curled up in bed feeling drousy and sorry for myself and just wondered whether I'm doing the right thing treating the blood infection - will the antibiotics harm the baby?

Jazz I'm no doctor but my DH has had this (tracking only went up to his shoulder though) and based on his experience I'd say the infection is much more likely to be harmful to you and baby if left untreated than the antibiotics are. If you continue to feel worse/see no improvement I would get yourself to A&E without delay. I don't want to scare you because in all probability you will both be totally fine but I do think it's really important that the doctors get the blood infection under control. Get well soon x

Thanks for the reply
ok - I am taking the antibiotics like a good girl but the previous ones made me very ill, I'm feeling a little better now but just worried about the baby :(

hey, thankfully it has, the new antibiotics seem to be working and I've just been advised to take things restfully so I'm watching Hustle from series 1 whilst curled up in bed!!
Thanks for caring :)

Glad to hear you're starting to feel better. TV box sets sound like the perfect medicine! Good luck with the rest of your pg - hopefully after this the rest will be plain sailing Smile
