Pregnant after MMC - anyone in same boat?

Hi everyone, I have been lurking for a while and find everyones comments very helpful but feel the need to share my story..
Had an MMC in November and now am expecting again due date 10 Sept. Last week had bleeding (all of a sudden and then nothing at all). Went to hospital the next day where everyone was really helpful and managed to get a scan showing heartbeat at 6 weeks - what a relief!

But, having had an MMC before the cup is always half empty! there is a clot above the baby which could come out at any time so i am constantly worrying that I will miscarry, either because of the clot or another MMC.

The baby was measured at 6 weeks but i thought i was about 6+5, should i be worried that it is smaller than it should be and so less likely to survive?

Does any one else do this constant second guessing and does anyone have any words of wisdom?

Hi bigbaby congratulations on your pg, and sorry you're having such a worring time. There is a lovely thread called pregnancy post mc where we've all been through MMCs or MCs and are pg again so feel free to come and join us.
The only thing you can do is wait and see and have regular scans for reassurance, which is really difficult but if you need your hand holding come and find us!

thanks clareanna, will take a look!

Hello bigbaby, congratulations!

Its nice to find someone in a similar boat - I had a miscarriage in November when I was about 11 wks pregnant. I just found out I'm pregnant again. Due a bit later than you on 26 September - not sure how we managed it so quick, we only started trying again after Christmas! I can only imagine it was our dedication to the cause :-)

You're right its hard not to worry that you might miscarry again and knowing that statistically you are no more or less likely to than last time (or at least thats what my consultant told me based on my circs) doesn't really help.

I'm wondering how early I can get a scan as I'd hate to get that far again. Did you go to an EPU?

Hi Blimey! thanks for your message, yes i went to the EPU and they were very good- just turned up after threatening to go to A&E which i think they dont want you to do! dont you feel at the early stages that you fall in between the cracks a bit? the midwife phoneline said i should either go to my doctor (who wouldnt be able to scan so i didnt see the point) or to the labour ward, which i didnt think was the right place for someone worrying about a MC!! i feel a bit silly when i say im 7 weeks as it seems like nothing, but to me it is!!
im a week closer to my scan now so trying to relax, though i have become the quickest knicker checker in the west!

do you have strong symptoms?

after last time they should give you an early scan (8 weeks i think), 12 is sooooo far away isnt it!

Hello ladies, pregnant after having a mmc in April 2010, luckily I'm now 36 weeks pregnant. I still feel anxious about this pregnancy, but as each day/week passes I feel a little less anxious. I paid for a private scan at eight weeks as I just had to know how things were progressing.

I sometimes call the maternity assessment unit when I'm feeling a bit worried, I'm surprised I'm not black listed! My midwife was good and suggested I could talk to someone if I needed to. Just take care and I'll keep my fingers crossed xx

Thanks for your messages, its amazing how much reassurance you can get from hearing other peoples stories! counting down the days now until my next scan and will push for one at 10 weeks as well.

The main thing is i REFUSE to become a worried mum and so have told myself after 12 weeks i will start enjoying this pregnancy!! Our MC shouldnt define us as people or as mothers and im hoping in time i will stop thinking of the negatives!

good luck everyone!
