Bigger bump than usual . . .

I am 20 weeks pg with my third child. In my previous two pregnancies I have never got very big, not shown at all at this stage and had small neat bumps towards the end. My babies were 7lb 5 and 6lb 10oz.

However, this time I seem so huge already. I have an obvious bump. Is it possible to have two smallish babies followed by a larger baby? Or is it just because my stomach muscles are completely non existant now? I'm feeling worried that I'm going to produce a whopper this time, especially as I'm planning a home birth with limited pain relief.

I don't know about being pg with third babies - am pg with my second. But I do know that I showed earlier with this one and last time I was pretty big by the end. I am 26 weeks today and have had a very obvious bump for weeks now.

But I did just want to reassure you re giving birth to a bigger baby without pain relief at home - I had DS at hospital and he was 8lb 10oz - I had him in the water without gas and air because it made me feel sick. Some midwives think it's easier to give birth to bigger babies - not sure how true that is! And I'm planning on having this one at home - and I think it's going to be a similar size, if not bigger.

MIne got bigger each time. My mw kindly explained to me that my uterus was like a balloon which had already been blown up. Nice.

Hi Rosie,
I am pg with no2, and at the beginning everyone asked if I was having twins! I didn't think I was too big, but obviously they were seeing something I wasn't!
Now I am nearer the end-37wks pg, Things aren't that bad, and I am told that after all I do look smaller than last time.
When I asked my MW, she said that in subsequent pgs your muscles are a lot weaker, and after all-the muscles have stretched all that way once, so it's not hard for them to do so again.

Enjoy how you look! It won't last forever!

ds3 was bigger than ds2 but smaller than ds1. however i definately had a bigger bump with no 3, people were guessing when i was only 10 weeks! i was chatting to someone about it who said her friend was on no. 9 and was huge within 6 weeks. i think it is to do with stomach muscles, and at only 20 weeks i dont think there is that much difference in baby size anyway. fwiw i had two very tough labours followed by a really easy one with ds3. needed lots of stitches with both ds1 and 2, but none with ds3 who was almost a pound bigger than ds2

I got massive very quickly with no3 even though he turned out to be bigger than no1 but smaller than no2.

Your muscles are obviously shot to pieces!

the more you have, IME, the bigger you get -and quicker too! and yes its all to do with not even having muscles in your tummy anymore.
I am huge and measuring a week or two ahead for dates.
I dont mind, was big last pg (this is my fourth)and had a normal same size as previous two baby. bump sizes arent really baby sizes, iyswim!
