I have a colleague who is 3 weeks pregnant and was offered a new job last night (before she knew she was pregnant!) If she takes the job which is a really good job she would start in 4 week when she is 7 weeks pregnant - I have looked on the net and Im not sure if she would get any maternity ebenfit because she has changed job while pregnant but if anyone knows anything different I would really appreciate any advice so I can let her know :) many thanks isabel

Is it in the same company? Or a new one? I think that would be the first key question.

Yes she will get maternity pay but it is paid entirely by the government. It is called [[http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/Expectingorbringingupchildren/DG_10018869 maternity allowance. Easy to apply for and they are quick at processing.

That is what i got - works on sliding scale depending on her income and the max is the same as SMP.

Plus she still has full rights for appointments and leave. I did similar to your friend and waited until i could hide no longer and then told them - i was 23 weeks. I just booked days off for scans and said i had gyne appointment for the midwife visit.
