Asking parents about medical history

Hello there

Expecting DC1 and getting ready for first midwife appointment - very excited. I understand this will mainly be about family medical history / obstetric history etc...

How do you ask your parents about this if you don't want to tell them you are pregnant? Our families are abroad and we have trips booked post 12 weeks to tell them face to face. Any ideas? A sudden medical interrogation over the phone will raise suspicions...

How important is it that I know everything at the first midwife appointment?
