Taking iron with thrombophilia

I have a concern and would appreciate any experiences.

I have thrombophilia and take aspirin to keep my blood thin. I am being monitored at an FMU and next have a review in March to assess what my blood is doing and discuss the plan for delivery in June.

At my latest blood count by the MW my mcv (mean cell volume) was very low and although my hb was fine I was told by my GP to double my iron intake.

My concern is that, when my thrombophilia was originally identified I was told by the consultant (and I wrote it down) to be very careful of taking iron supplements as they could thicken the blood too much. When I asked the GP about this she just said 'you'll be fine' For various reasons I have very little faith in my GP and would appreciate comments from anyone who knows anything about this condition and the dangers of taking iron. Anyone?

Hi lunatic how are you getting on? I really dont want to worry you at all, there is probably nothing in this, just an over cautious obs. Do you have thrombophilia too?
I seem to be bleeding well atm as well bruising like a peach which I take as a good sign....well, until labour when I'll want the bleeding to stop...but thats a while away yet.
Dont you hate all this stress...cant help thinking it was all alot simpler when we were more ignorant!

Wow, not long to go now then but bummer being in hospital, hang in there!
I have no idea why this type of thing can happen to one pg and not another, it seems a bit mad.
I'll let you know if the MW says anything interesting though I suspect she will just tell me to raise at the next obs apt in 3 weeks!
Take care

Lunatic I'm worried about you, how are you?
As expected the MW said to raise the subject with the obs at my next review but she wasnt aware of any dangers of high iron with thrombophilia
Take care x
