Labour Ward tour?

As this is my second pg I won't be attending antenatal classes. Well, they haven't been offered and I'm not bothered enough to chase them up! But I'm worried about missing the tour of the labour ward. I'm not sure if it's a normal part of the classes, but we did it last time.

We have since moved from London to Derbyshire and I have no idea what our hospital is like! After a majorly traumatic birth with DD, including resuscitation on my part(!), I really feel it necessary to have a look round and see what they are like. it feels impossible to have any confidence in a place I have never seen.

Anyway, please excuse my waffling. My point is - is there anyway I can get a tour? If I rang them would they not just be too busy to take me round?! Or will they do set tours? Or is it not normal to get one at all?

With my first the midwife arranged a tour of the labour ward for me with other parents-to-be so speak to your midwife and see what she says.
This time we have brand new maternity block just opened and they are not doing tours - really want to see around it so will chase midwife for this too.

I have been told to book mine at the ante natal clinic (at the hospital) after my 20 week scan. I'm sure if you go there, th will point you inthe right direction, or ask your midwife.

People in our AN group who couldn't make the evening of the tour were told to just ring up and arrange a time to come in to visit. Might need to be a bit flexible though as if you arrive at the appointed time and they suddenly have an influx of labouring mums then you will have to come back at another time!

I only have access to a virtual tour.

Our maternity hospital doesn't do either tours or virtual tours, I think it just depends on your PCT. Givve them a phone :)

my hospital don't do tours any more ( was looking forward to getting a look at it before hand) getting a virtual dvd instead.
