Diarrhoea in early pregnancy

Is this a common early pregnancy symptom. I've read lots about constipation being a problem but not so much about the runs..!

I'm 6 weeks and since this afternoon have the runs! I'm not otherwise sick and have been heating a huge amount of green veg in the past week - so am not sure if this is just a fairly normal hormonal thing combined with a bit too much veg or if it could be something I need to worry about (linked to poss early miscarriage..)

Have/did you experience a bit of diarrhoea in early pregnancy?

Yes - had more of that than being sick. If you search here or on web it's not uncommon.

And fwiw I have had mc and don't think it linked - more hormones make my digestion more sensitive .

Yes I had it pretty much constantly in the first twelve weeks. I think its the hormones. By about 16 weeks it had turned into constipation!!! Don't be surprised if you swing between the two! xx

You will become ill in pregnancy, just like you did before and will after you have the baby. It doesn't mean anything is wrong. Drink fluids, and call the GP if it lasts longer than 3 days. Don't go to the antenatal ward at hosp as you'll just spread it to other mums/babies.

I always have diarrhoea in early pregnancy. First 8 weeks or so. I discovered that it's actually quite common. Lots of threads on here about it.

Yes, I had it for my 3 pregnancies.

Yes, as far as I know it is fairly normal! I tend to flip between the one extreme to the other in pregnancy. I remember a few weeks after DD was born I was so chuffed to do a normal poo as I hadn't done one for months! Grin
