Disappearing Bump

Hi, I'm currently 26 weeks and now have a proper bump, except sometimes I don't. I seem to range from it sticking out further than my boobs to looking like I've just had a rather substantial sunday dinner. This morning when I was getting dressed it actually crossed my mind that I may not be pregnant any more as I seemed to have totally deflated!

I'm trying not to let this worry me as I know the babies position will change I measured normal size at my midwife appointment on Wednesday but it is freaking me out a little bit so it would be good to know if this is happening to anyone else.

You can feel baby moving around though yes? if not, see your GP or contact your EPU.

I was massive with Ds, but I didn't really show at all at 26 weeks with Dd. Try not to worry about it, you'll probably sprout soon and be annoyed at not having anything to wear :)

I had a bump like that til about 32 weeks. I have a longish torso so it seemed that he just had plenty of room without sticking out. All people say about what you have depends on how you carry is crap IMO, I think its all to do with the shape you are to start with. My baby was constantly breech though, from about 26 weeks at least, whether that had anything to do with how he looked from the outside is anybodies guess.

Anyway, rambling on, as long as you can feel your baby moving around on a regular basis, (and i'm willing to bet at this stage s/he is doing acrobatics Grin), then its all fine.

I'm 35 weeks and even now, sometimes if I'm lay on my back (reclined on the sofa, my default position these days), my bump seems to go all soft and squidgy (usually pretty firm) and disappears a bit. I don't know where baby goes, but s/he obviously toddles off to somewhere at the back sometimes, then s/he's back with a vengeance!

I'm tall and I assume that might mean there is a bit more room for moving around in there?

Are you getting movement though - call your mw if you're not feeling usual movements.

Oh yes baby is generally very active and I have felt it moving about this morning although when I'm in "deflated" mode I can't feel it as much, which I guess adds to the worry about whether or not this is normal! I guess it's just one of those things that they don't really tell you about in the books.

MIne's up and down like a barometer. Seems larger / firmer / more noticeable by the end of the day, and I put this down to a day's worth of eating and drinking and general bloating (me), and baby's position. I'm 28 weeks.

TOTALLY! I am glad it's not just me. I was lying on my back the other day and thought 'where has it gone?! It was here a minute ago'. I also had that weird, 'maybe I'm not pregnant anymore feeling' though the kicking tells me otherwise. Mine is much bigger in the evening than the morning too. I'm pretty sure that my baby is breech as I never feel any movement towards my ribs it's all 'down there'.

I had moments of panic when I felt like bump had shrunk but it must have been the way baby was lying. Also, I have a tiny frame and so a very neat bump. As long as baby is moving, measuring well and you aren't leaking fluid, should be fine.

I remember a friend telling me she was like this and I gave her a Hmm face,

but with dd2 I was like this and as ruby said always found bump bigger at the end of the day, but towards ends I was just constantly bigGrin

As someone else said as long as you still feel baby and are feeling ok try not to worry

thefurryone · 14/01/2011 14:23

Thanks everyone Smile reassuring to know that I'm not the only one experiencing this.

Me too ! I'm 26 weeks and don't feel like I have a proper bump sometimes !

Looking back I was the same with my DD - you couldn't tell I was pg until about 2 weeks before I had her and I'm not a ' big ' girl.

Forget Im having another one until she starts wriggling !

I wouldn't worry about it. If your mw was concerned she would have said so.
