... but they feel tight on my lower belly. They've a stretchy band which sits across the top of my pelvis.

Is this how they're supposed to feel and is it dangerous for the baby. I wondered if the baby was actually higher up? I'm only 7 weeks but already having difficulty as my belly is so bloated.

i think the baby will be just fine, he has lots of fluid round to keep him safe and he is teeny tiny. Really annoying to have uncomfy jeans though, can you adjust them? I found over bump jeans really comfy, but all maternity trousers are a bit of a nightmare and in need of constant hitching up ime.
What size are you, I'm just about to recycle a couple of pairs..

Tokyotwist · 13/01/2011 20:27

Thank you wonderstuff. I'm a 14 but with very very long legs, which is why I'm loathe to return these as they actually fit everywhere else.

I may have to give up and just stick to dresses and tights. Lets hope the weather stays as mild as it was today.

I brought some over the bump maternity leggings, only a tenner from matalan and soooo comfy!! They are quite long too as I have to turn them up and im not particularly short. Im still wearing them now at 29 weeks :)

Grumpla · 13/01/2011 20:39

I had this problem too, but weirdly as bump got bigger jeans got comfier.

I found the Dorothy Perkins Tall maternity jeans had a comfier waistband than the Mothercare ones (which I ended up never wearing unless the DP ones were in the wash) and they were long enough for me (just under six foot) with a bit to spare.

wonderstuff · 13/01/2011 20:53

I'm a ten and a shortarse so no help sorry

Have you tried the hairband through the buttonhole thing with your old jeans? Might make them comfier for a couple of weeks?

Tokyotwist · 13/01/2011 21:00

Thanks for all the ideas. Good to hear the jeans may get comfier.

Off to find a hairband.

I could only keep under bump jeans up by wearing a tight belt (I have absolutely NO hips) couldn't bear it with #1 but practically lived in them with #2 - she was fine:)

PipPipPip · 13/01/2011 22:10

I agree that it probably won't harm your baby but GRRRR to uncomfortable jeans!

I'll cast another vote for over-the-bump jeans. I bought some from Next (I think they were 'tall' size) and I have worn them almost every day of the pregnancy.

Oh yeah, and I did the hairband trick on my old jeans until about 12 weeks. Just had to make sure I wore really long tops to cover it Blush !!

I was able to fit in my normal jeans till 22 weeks. I tried the maternity bands, but these just did not seem to hold anything. I ordered below the belly jeans by Heidi Klum at destinatination maternity and these are fantastically comfortable and look great. i do not notice them below the bump. You will not hurt your baby, but do make sure that the band is not cutting into you too much - need to to be comfortable...

I tried a bunch of over belly jeans (both high street and designer brands) and these were just rolling off me. I think they are just not made for petite framed women (the legs fit, but the band is gigantic). Maybe will give these a chance later in 3rd trimester...

theevildead2 · 14/01/2011 08:28

hairband as been mentioned or even a showstring Blush and then bumpbad over the whole thing.

I love my bump band

lilly13 · 14/01/2011 08:36

sorry, a real hairband (as for your hair)? i am not English, so pardon me if i misunderstoond you. how can you wear a hairband over your jeans? do you put this on from your head down? i am sorry i just never heard anything like this. in the US, women seem to wear just maternity bands, except they are huge...

theevildead2 · 14/01/2011 08:42

Like the little stratch rubberbands you put in your hair. You loopit through the button hole of your jeans and attach it to the button so that you can get a few extra inches!

see here!

lilly13 · 14/01/2011 08:43

haha... cool. thanks!

buttercup123 · 14/01/2011 08:44

Tokyo - I found that my bump was waaaay more sensitive in my earlier weeks than it is now (currently 30 weeks) - initially I couldn't handle having anything with a waistband around the bump, whereas I can cope with it now (my under the bump jeans also come up to the top of my pelvis). So it may be worth finding other options for now and keeping the jeans for when your bump gets a little more robust?

Deliaskis · 14/01/2011 09:02

I never found any under bump things that were comfy, over bump all the way for me. Some people swear by them though, I just think it's a case of horses for courses.

I did feel though that earlier on, my (tiny) bump was much more sensitive, at 35 weeks baby seems to put up with pretty much anything!

theevildead2 · 14/01/2011 09:07

The op won't have enough of a bump to keep over the bump jeans up yet though I wouldn't have thought?

nancy10 · 14/01/2011 11:24

I found under the bump jeans unbearable. Leggings are a god send. I recently bought a really nice pair of over the bump jeans with the button quite low from New Look. I don't usually buy trousers or jeans from there because they don't fit very well. But I have to say the maternity jeans are very comfy!

Ivegotmrbitey · 14/01/2011 11:29

I have also bought a pair from new look. The actual jean part is an under bump and then there is soft stretchy fabric for over the bump. (This may make them over bumps, not sure!) They are so comfy, fit my size 14 fairly tall frame really nicely and were only £15! I sound like I'm on comission don't I?

Poppet45 · 14/01/2011 13:51

I hated under the bump jeans too, over the bump all the way. But then with DS I carried very low and all out the front - classic boy bump. Unfortunately he was so huge that I couldn't wear any mat jeans after 7 and a half months. But that's what yoga trousers are for :)
