Had scan Monday. Ultrasonographer asked me if I wanted to 'know sex' I did not as i am des. for one sex and do not want to know till birth when it wont matter!

When i said i did not want to see but could she tell she said 'yes' without any hesitation.

Do mumsnetters think this means it is a boy?? Any experiences or comments welcome!

It just means she can tell what sex it is. It'll be pretty clear to her one way or anoter which one and doesn't necessarily mean it's a boy.

steph1974 · 05/10/2005 14:32

I dont think it means one way or another, she either saw what looked like a willy or she didnt, nothing more to it i wouldnt have thought.

ladybundyful · 05/10/2005 14:34

girls don't have "nothing" there, if that's what you mean. my consultant could tell straight away that my dd2 was a girl (the so-called "hamburger")

steph1974 · 05/10/2005 14:34

Take it its a boy you want then?I asked the sex for my second baby and she laughed when she looked cos my son has huge ballies and she said there wasnt much doubt in her mind that it was a boy.

Good luck, hope you get what you want.

Mimi5 · 05/10/2005 14:35

I just thought that to be so certain it would be a boy as a girl normally comes with a % chance?

Oh right! You want a girl, silly me!!Could you not see anything yourself after having three boys?Mind you,if you dont want to know they dont tend to show you down there do they?

I'd be desperate to know if i were you, dont know how you managed to say no!

Mimi5 · 05/10/2005 14:42

I know but i am tring to be philosophical ... its already decided for me!

Mimi5 exactly the same thing happened to us and I thought that she must have seen it was a boy. But DD2 has no willy

LIZS · 05/10/2005 14:50

Don't read too much into it. My OB/Gyn said he knew 100% but I didn't want to know. I had a girl which I wasn't from his comment but he was !!

Mimi5 · 05/10/2005 14:55

Thanks Xena and Lizs ...both made me tingle a bit!!!!!!!! Anyway que sera sera ....gave me some hope though after 48 hours of selfish tears!! ( I know its bad to feel like this but i am just being honest emotion!)

Consultant pointed my girl out to me yesterday....showed the two dots which were her ovaries and said no doubt

Mimi5 · 05/10/2005 15:10

Thats good horse ! Are you delighted ? I have often wondered why people dont mention ovaries!

I had already been told from previous scans but wanted to ask again and thats when he pointed the dots out!! I think girls do have an 89% and boys 100%

Yes i'm really happy. My DD was begging for a sister and I was unsure how to tell her if we were having a boy so I decided to find out so we could break the news to her just in case lol.

Rachey1969 · 05/10/2005 15:25

With my boys (all three of them) I really wasn't sure myself looking at the scan - this time before I asked the sonographer said she could see baby weeing and laughed... so I guess she saw a willy. I'm not sure they can see testicles because they don't descend until just before birth - maybe a scrotum?!

Girls are fairly easy to spot apparently - the 'hamburger' sign is three white lines indicating the tissues of her labia.

Distelsspirit · 05/10/2005 15:53

I wanted to know with my 3rd baby as wealready had a boy and a girl wich we haddn't found out the sex, the Sonographer couldn't tell.

shhhh · 06/10/2005 15:07

I wouldn't try and interperate the scan yourself unless you are qualified!! My friends dd was expecting and my friend went with her to the scan, she spoke to me and said..she's having a boy!! I asked if she had been told this and she said dd didn't want to know but that she could see it was a boy!!
LOL her dd gave birth 5 months later to a girl..!

Mimi5 · 06/10/2005 17:37

she saw a boy - too much crying by me made me ring and ask. A lot of crying later and i am sure i will feel better tomorrow...

thanks everyone
