Sushi - 38+3 - it's ok, right?

I haven't actually eaten fresh sushi my entire pregnancy, as I read that the fresh stuff hasn't been frozen and so any potential bacteria wouldn't have been eliminated through freezing like the M&S stuff would have. Plus just haven't fancied it.

My best friend is taking me out to a sushi restaurant on Monday and while I could have the hot dishes, I love good fresh sushi. This restaurant was a frequent haunt of mine pre-pregnancy and I have never been ill after eating there - am I just being paranoid to think that there is any real risk of me getting ill from eating their sushi, to the point where it could harm the baby?

I'm 38+3. I've eaten tuna carpaccio a couple of times throughout my pregnancy and all has been well. WWYD?

I would eat it

Sorry, I will be 38+3 on Monday when I go to the restaurant. Not that it makes any real difference as to whether I get food poisoning or not!

Carpaccio is raw

No difference between that and sushi IMO

Fish used for sushi in restaurants has to be frozen before use too so it is safe to eat in pregnancy.

Yes it's fine to eat. A quote from the food standard agency website regarding eating sushi while pregnant...

"Sushi sold in shops or restaurants, whether it's ready-made or made in the shop, should be fine to eat. This is because the raw fish the shop uses to make sushi must have been frozen at minus 20°C for at least 24 hours."

Enjoy your night out Smile

Oh thanks for this! Yes carpaccio is raw and I know there is no difference, I was just being nuts. :)

Midori and Rasta, music to my ears loves, thanks! I think I remember reading a blurb on some promo material about the restaurant stating it has all been frozen at some stage so I am most definitely being a fool. I can't wait to fill my sushi boots, I can't believe I haven't wanted it for nine months! Grin
