The mattress i used for my DD is in fine condition so its ok in that respect but im wondering is it safer for the baby to have a new one? Or am i being paranoid?

I'm re using ours as long as there are no spillages IYSWIM. Try say it's ideal to replace for each child but would be very expense and wasteful if mattress is in as new condition.

It's not one of the things listed by nhs etc as how to minimise risk but if you google you'll get lots of place that say do and lots that don't mention it.

I think it depends on how it was stored. Mines been up in the loft for a couple of years, looks fine but i'm not risking it so have bought a new one.

really can;t see why if it is in good condition and has been stored carefully - I wouldn;t buy one 2nd hand but will use DS's one for DC2

Its stored on the garage with black bags taped round it. Only few dribble stains on it.

i read somewhere you can reuse a mattress for a sibling only which makes it ok for you. i put our almost new mattress back into its warpper and its got a cover on it already and i intend to reuse it for db due in april.

I always thought it was to do with the dent in the mattress affecting growth of baby's spine? Not supporting it correctly or something... Or is that just me? Confused

Saying that, I will be using DD's old mattress for new baby, just using the other end, IYSWIM. She only used it for a couple of years (and spent quite a lot if that in our bed!) So I can't see it doing much harm.
