My friend is having an operation for this today. I don't know much about it, but don't want to ask. Can they "fix" it, or do they have to remove the embryo? Do they have to remove the fallopian tube? And for anyone who has had this, what is the best response you had? Sympathy, or just flowers, or food? I am 33 weeks pregnant, so don't really want to prance around making her more upset.

Thanks

My sister had this. The preganancy is gone I'm afraid, no chance of it surviving. My sister lost her tube, but I don't know if this is always the case. How hard your friend will find your pg depends on whether she has other children, how long she has been trying for this baby and various other factors. I was pg with my first child when my sister had her ectopic. I got pg straightaway whereas she was trying for years. She never managed to have a child of her own whereas I have 4. Let's put it this way, a lot is never talked about between her and me.

Also, my sister was pretty ill when she had her ectopic so maybe food isn't the best idea. Flowers would be nice.

SIL had one surrounding a lot of trouble for her in this department when I was pg. Although its going to be upsetting, I think it will depend on the circumstances as to how much.

Someone did buy flowers and she wasnt too pleased. Maybe a card with a few well chosen words would be more appropriate.

if the tube is taken out tell her she can have children. I have one tube only and am PG so her only having one won't reduce the chances of concieving again. (((((((hugs))))))) to both of you.

thank you all - i think i'll send her a card, and then wait for her to make contact
