Anyone had ECV? Does it hurt for a few days after? All stories welcome.

I am 36 weeks. Baby is breech. I wanted the hospital to do a c section at 38 weeks as I have SPD and can barely walk. They won't do it until 39 weeks so I am going to go ahead with ECV, and hope she is a bit early.

Has anyone had it? All stories and experiences welcome. Also if you did, were you sore after for a few days? The leaflet says you will be and I am having it done 2 days before DS's party. Wondering if I am going to be in pain (more than just the SPD).

I had one, not that I knew I was having one.
I felt sick for the rest of the day and it bloody hurt.

My advice would be only to have it done in hospital.

Where else would you have it done? I am booked in at the hospital as there is a very small risk of baby getting distressed and them having to do an EMCS anyway.

Mine was done in my lounge.

Blimey!!

I have just read a link someone put on the other thread I started about peoples experiences and I am surprised they do it anywhere other than the hospital.

Yes, I had one done & as fab says, it really bloody hurt. I don't remember it hurting after that day though. It didn't work for me, dd1 was wedged in place with her bum in my pelvis, but as she was my first baby it wasn't likely to work anyway. From the sound of your post this isn't your first so you've got a better chance of success. Good luck.

She was severely reprimanded. She asked if she could feel my baby and turned him without me realising. I had had a section previously and she could have caused a real problem, especially as when I went into labour my scar nearly ruptured. And I paid her £50 for the priviledge!

Crapbag you sound like me, almost 36 weeks and dd2 (baby no4) has been breech for the last month or so. She was head down before 30 weeks then went breech, briefly turned head down for less than a week at about 32 weeks then turned breech again and has stayed that way so far. I think shes comfy where she is though I dont appreciate being booted in the bladder and bowel!
I see the consultant Tuesday as I have very bad pgp/spd, am on co-codamol that doesnt make a differnce and virtually house bound (not fun with a 6,4 and 2 year old)physio not making any difference. Im hoping the consultant will agree to an early induction at 37/38 weeks as the pain is unbearable but if she stays breech Il need an ECV next week.
Which hospital are you at?Xx

I had succesful ecv at 37 weeks with DS1 it was uncomfortable but not painful in my opinion, and went home later that day feeling no different if i'm honest!! He stayed in there for another 4.5 weeks so sorry if you were hoping it might make LO early not always so!!!

lazygaze · 12/01/2011 22:33

I had a non successful ECV at 37 weeks, it wasn't painful at all. I asked the consultant to try without the muscle relaxant as I didn't like the idea of it, which he did, but then he ended up giving me one anyway, because he felt he was close to turning my baby and it might just give him that bit of extra space. For me the ECV wasn't the problem, it was the muscle relaxant- he said i might feel 'a bit sweaty'... i had a really bad reaction to it and felt so awful, like i had taken bad drugs or was really horribly drunk.. felt sick, cold and clammy, voices and sounds went tinny.. ergh it was horrible!
