Hi there,

I am currently 24+3 with my first and am suffering from very bad restless legs, and more recently feet! It comes on around 9pm and lasts all night. I am tossing and turning in bed, because it's stopping me from sleeping.

Can anyone recommend something to ease this extremely annoying pregnancy symtom?? I am getting desperate..Sad

Thanks

I have exactly the same problem.

Unfortunately though I have not found any solutions myself. I have been to a physiotherapist, I do yoga regularly, I've tried warm baths, massages and just lying around the house all day as i'm on maternity leave.

My pain started around 27 weeks and am now 32 weeks and has not gotten any better.

All I can say is good luck and hope your pain gets better.

I get it too and it could be a sign of a mineral deficiency such as iron or a b-vitamin deficiency so ask the midwife to check your bloods. I am a bit low on the iron front so have started taking Spa Tone so I'm hoping it will help. I find that keeping my legs cool helps so leaving them uncovered in bed and just covering my top half helps but it is frustrating I can empathise totally. I am sorely tempted to buy some 'Deep Freeze' to see if it helps or wrapping up my legs in cold, wet towels!

Me too! Driving me (and my partner) nuts. No solutions, sorry, but I'm going to start taking mineral supplements again and see if they help.

I have it, but not when pregnant just the rest of the time. I would go to your GP, but not all believe this condition really exists.

My mum got iron prescribed and it went away.

I had this in my arms and legs and understand just how annoying it is.. I swear, I wanted to rip my arms off at one point!

My mw and someone on mn recommended eating bananas as it can be a sign that your potassium levels are low. I started having one about an hour before bed and it actually worked! I still get it a bit occasionally when I haven't eaten one but much better than before.

I had this for about 4 days when I stopped taking my multi vits. It vanished when I started taking them again. So, check that you are not deficient in iron.

Hi all, Thank's so much for your replies. I had another awful night of it yesterday evening. Not a minutes sleep and am feeling so sorry for myself. Left a message with the mid-wife, who will hopefully call me back today. Went to the chemist and bought the Pregnacare multi-vitamin, so gonna start that tonight. I am desperately hoping that it will help, been crying all day Sad

Try Paracetamol one or two tablets about half an hour before you go to bed. That soemtimes works for me. Get your Iron levels checked too.
Good luck, it goes so fast post patrum, but that is no consolation antenatally, I know from bitter experience.

Hi, I sometimes got restless legs before pregnancy! Re exercise I found that yoga helped a lot; I just started a prenatal yoga class and they showed us specific exercises to combat restless leg and foot problems at nighttime. It was basically loosening the muscles by lightly rocking around/forwards and back. We did this on all fours with one leg stretched to the back which we wiggled then changed. Also rotated the feet around. Try a class or seek proper advice to be sure. Diet could play a factor too. I'm taking the pregnacare supplement from Boots to make sure I'm getting the right vitamins also.

Another one here with this annoying condition, I'm anaemic and on iron now so am hoping that will help.
