im 41+1 and ive had 2 sweeps and still my boy wont come out. midwife said that im 1cm dilated and fully effaced. his head as low as it can be. so theres no reason why i haven't gone into labour already. just want to ask if anyone knows if i can still have my planned water birth if i have to be induced? its booked for saturday

If you are already 1cm then the chances are you would be further dilated by an induction. Maybe try another sweep too. If you reach 4cm they will probably just break your waters. Either way, if you are induced and progress naturally from then onwards there is no reason why you shouldn't be allowed in a pool, at least this is what I was told at my induction. I was induced at 40+14, just waters broken and labour was 1hr 15mins Shock so no time for the pool! good luck.x

Thanks loopymumsy and bluefootedpenguin for your replies. Looks like im still in with a chance of having a waterbirth as long as i don't need the drip.

I was induced with DD and used the pool. It was great in there. Unfortunately several hours later everything went a bit wrong and ended up with a cs. But would recommend the pool. x

thanks missp2010 its my 1st baby and ive heard so many positive stories on water births and i still really want one. so im going to have to ask them if its still possible. unless i go into labour before but i feel thats doubtful, think he must be too comfy.x

Hi, just to say, I was induced with DS1 at 41+6. Had two pessaries, 2nd actually being given at 42 weeks at 10am. Things kicked off fine and despite strong contractions every 2 mins (they were pretty much one after hte other to be honest) didn't dialate or soften at all.... until I got into the pool.
4 hours later DS was born in the pool, much to the surprise of the midwife who was sure i'd be there till the following morning and was trying to talk me into an epidural as 'you can't suck on gas all that time'..
I didn't get the gas and air at all!!

Can say with certainty that getting in the pool was the best thing i did. Still painful but bliss.

That said, my only concern would be if the pool(s) were already in use...

thanks cazzr i was hoping for just gas and an air but i havnt ruled out the other options yet as its my first time. the midwife didn't explain what they will use first to induce me so im grateful for the info. i think im just going to have to take it as it comes depending on the labour itself and hope the pool is available and if i can use it.
