BPrincess · 10/01/2011 21:19

Terrifying. Why on earth am I watching it??!!! Help!!!

gallicgirl · 10/01/2011 21:19

I wasn't given the option of watching it. The DP said he rather it was all a surprise.

Angry

It had better be on watch again.

sh77 · 10/01/2011 21:33

I love the guy reading Tiberius - so funny.

This programme is scaring the crap out of me - thank goodness I am having a CS. Please baby don't arrive before the 11th March.

Can't wait to see the babies arrive.

kampakat · 10/01/2011 21:46

gallicgirl - you can watch the whole first series on 4OD...I started this afternoon and have scared myself quite enough for one evening!
Kkxx

Petalouda · 10/01/2011 22:05

Oh man, the screaming!

It's the crying husbands that get me, rather than the babies.

And they both had epidurals?

sam26oscar · 10/01/2011 22:18

i would have had to slap that women screaming like that.... and this is why i am not a midwife|!!!

lilmamma · 10/01/2011 22:41

There was no need for all that screaming,no wonder she was knackered at the end..imagine being in labour with your first baby and hearing all that,i think they should have a padded room for the screamers. :)

Bryher · 10/01/2011 22:45

Am traumatised now (only 8 weeks pg with first) and labour looks terrifying! Maybe I shouldn't watch this again, fear I won't be able to resist tho)

lilmamma · 10/01/2011 22:47

dont worry bryher,i think she was a one off and very dramatic, she was even screaming when the baby was out,i think she just lost control..The view of knickers getting flashed,id be mortified afterwards lol .

Sarahlou8 · 10/01/2011 23:20

I watched the first girl at the start and I was like this at the end before I pushed. Didn't realise she was just at the beginning and later had an epidural. Don't let it scare you. I didn't make any noise until the last two or three contractions.

QueenofDreams · 10/01/2011 23:24

The women on this program irritate the life out of me, because most of them lie on their backs thrashing around. Really - lying on your back is the worst thing you can do. For those of you in line to do it for the first time, the best advice I can give is NOT to lie on your back, it makes labour more painful. Try to stay calm and not panic, take deep slow breaths. And arm yourself with as much knowledge as possible beforehand.

Delivered my second child on Thursday night in water with gas and air. She was 9lb 14oz and tried to come out with her arm alongside her head. No theatrical shrieking and flailing about on a bed involved at any point :)

twirlymum · 11/01/2011 09:25

The father of Janet's baby surely has ASD?

sam26oscar · 11/01/2011 10:14

thought i was going to get slaughtered by saying the screamer was annoying!!
Agree with ueen* walk about makes it much quicker!! Also agree Janet OH had ASD or similar, although to be fair at the end i thought he was a sweetie when he bawled Grin

Milliebow · 11/01/2011 10:49

twirlmum i though janets dad might be on the autisitc spectrum but then why the emotionalness and crying etc. Did you here the bit where they said they met in year 7 in a social skills class, that they were both put in because they had trouble making friends? :o

Debs3013 · 11/01/2011 10:53

He was definitely a bit different but I was really impressed when he was saying he hoped his boy would want to learn and not just go out drinking.

I also picked up how, as soon as the mother was gone, he was straight over kissing and comforting his partner - he clearly adores her!

nancy10 · 11/01/2011 10:57

I can understand that different people have different pain threshholds but she was ridiculous. She was still squealing when the midwife had her baby in her arms. Bryher I had an epidural when I had twins naturally, it was brilliant, didn't feel a thing. At least you have this option if you are struggling to cope.

saoirse86 · 11/01/2011 10:57

I found out I was pg during the last series and I think I was in denial when I was watching it that any of that was going to happen to me.
This time I found it so emotional watching it. Partly I felt proud of myself for doing a better job than that screamy woman! Partly I felt annoyed that they had so much pain relief when I didn't even get gas and air until I was 7cm Angry !

saoirse86 · 11/01/2011 10:58

nancy I thought that was the case that you didn't feel anything when you had an epidural so why on earth was she still screaming?! Confused

twirlymum · 11/01/2011 11:01

He was probably on the lower end of the ASD scale, maybe Aspergers, which is why he was able to show some emotion.
I used to work with young people with ASD.

nigglewiggle · 11/01/2011 11:06

I love this program, but the laying on their backs thing really annoys me too.

nancy10 · 11/01/2011 11:08

And when you think women have caesareans with epidurals (maybe a stronger dose.) She also continued with the gas and air. She must have psychologically thought the pain was still there!

gallicgirl · 11/01/2011 11:11

Well one of the girls was screaming and moaning and then saying "I can't feel anything".

Hmm So why all the fuss then?

I thought it was lovely when that lad couldn't go up to theatre with his girlfriend so the MW asked if he wanted anything and he asked for a hug. Aww bless.

TheLogLady · 11/01/2011 11:12

2/3 of you are talking shite. may i direct you here for a slightly more balanced view.

also

  1. some women scream. it is not 'ridiculous' it just happens.
  1. an epidural does not take away all feeling unless you have fallen into a time warp and ended up in 1980
  1. People with autism, ASD and AS do have emotions.
  1. nobody has done 'a betterjob' if they are quiet
  1. the ignorance displayed above explains exactly why most women end up on their backs rather than keeping mobile.
  1. mortified by knickers on view Confused
