Hi all,

Am 12 weeks today and had scan on Friday and everything was perfect.

However, i have been having lower back pain for past couple of days and now sure if this is normal or start of something like miscarriage.

Please let me know what you think.

From my experience back pain was quite normal in pregnancy. Its all about the changes in your hormones. I saw a chiropractor during my pregnancy and it really helped, particularly for sciatica. Good luck.

Thanks Tras for responding. I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks in Sept and just paranoid as also had shoulder pain and have heard that is a sign of miscarriage as well although the shoulder pain has gone.

I keep hearing stories of people losing their babies between 12wks and 20wks and just becoming really paranoid.

I often had lower back pain in the first trimester, I think this is quite common. Have you tried yoga or Pilates? Or some other gentle exercise, I found that that helped me most. And the occasional (not too) hot waterbottle...

I had a lot of back pain last pregnancy. I don't remember how many weeks I was, but it was fairly early on. I remember being surprised as I always thought it would only be in late pregnancy with a big bump.

So, yes probably perfectly normal.

The shoulder pain can be a late sign of ectopic pregnancy, but as you have had your scan and everything was fine you don't need to worry about that.

I'm 12 weeks and 6 days (how exciting hey?!) and wondered if you had considered that it might be a Urinary Tract Infection? I had one a couple of weeks ago and had lower back pain (kidneys of course) and the GP put me on antibiotics for a week and now I feel fine. Might be worth asking for a test if you haven't already had one? Good luck.
