Anyone else got them? I've got low blood pressure so wondering if it's that. I had forgotten that I had them at end of last pregnancy too. Probably just knackered.

I'd get that checked out in case there is something going on, can you ring your GP or midwife?

Okay, as part of my job I take pictures of the outside and inside of eyes. These dark spots (floaters) are nothing to worry about in themselves. They don't cause you any harm at all and generally disappear of their own accord. What can cause them is changes in the vitreous fluid within the eye. The change in the fluid can happen for various reasons and mainly happens in older people but of course, as we know, pregnancy does weird things to us so maybe it affects the eyes in some pregnant people too. Now, they can be a symptom of low OR high blood pressure. If you are worried then yes, speak to your GP or MW, especially if you are suffering other symptoms like dizziness. My guess is that they will probably go in their own time. x

I will mention it to mw if it carries on. They are just annoying, as I instintively keep trying to focus on them, as my brain tries to work out what they are, but they move when I move my head! Weird.

I have low blood pressure (well normal but on the low side of normal) and get these too.

I get them when not pg - often first thing in the morning or when I need to eat, but IIRC they were worse when I was pg and usually followed by a slight spell of dizziness.

I wouldn't worry too much and just mention it to your mid wife on your next appointment.

However, as loonyrationalist says, if you have any of the other symptoms of pre-eclampsia, get checked out sooner.

I had low bp below 90/60 most of my pregnancy then fairly suddenly got pre eclampsia with high bp (240/140). I ignored the visual disturbances which sound the same as yours as I thought I couldn't possibly have high bp when it had been so low. Turns out my Liver was struggling my whole pregnancy. I think you should get your bp checked tomorrow and see if you have any other pe signs.

S'funny, I've got these too. My Urine was fine when checked on Wed, and BP fairly normal (only raised from 100/60 to 120/80). I have another A/N on Wednesday, I think I'll mention it then, this is dc4, I had pre-eclampsia badly with dc1, but that was almost 13 yrs ago, had forgotten visual disturbance was one sign. . I'm 39 weeks today. With dc1 I was on bed rest from 30 wks, and induced at 34+4 due to pre-eclampsia, but was fine (no pre-eclampsia) with DC2 & DC3. Must talk to MW.

Hi, assuming they are something that you have just appeared get them checked asap. They are floaters (bits of vitreous jelly floating around casting shadows on your retina which you can perceive), if occuring without flashing lights are usually nothing to worry about but sometimes these changes to the jelly can cause small tears to the retina. You can never be too careful, you need a dilated fundus exam to be 100% sure that they are nothing to worry about.

It sounds a lot like floaters, which are nothing to worry about. The visual disturbances of pre-eclampsia are typically more like migraine "flashing lights".

I suggest you speak to someone you know to be qualified - MW if you can get hold of one, or NHS Direct to find out if it's something you need to have checked now, or if it can wait until after the weekend.

My visual disturbances didn't always flash and they definitely pre eclampsia.

I would get checked out, it might just be floaters as some of the others have said.

I get something similar to this when I get migrains though and quite often I get the visual disturbances without the headache!

Always best to get checked out though, the worry won't be doing you any good.

Thanks for replies everyone. The black things seem to come and go, and definately worse when I am very tired, and dragging myself around. I will contact mw tomorrow, just to be on safe side.

sadly just a name. Cakes have been my staple throughout the last 30 weeks

get it checked out please - floaters are a sign of your retina detaching. I had these last year and needed urgent laser eye surgery to repair.
