Make your own?

I think the problem is in the risk of unsanitary preparation and cross contamination with raw/undercooked fish. The seaweed part is meant to be very nutrious.

A Japanese lady told me she eats sushi in japan when pregnant but wouldn't in the uk as she didn't trust the preparation.

I've had California rolls but that's it - I do miss sushi!

My understanding is that in the UK the fish used has to be deep frozen for a prescribed amount of time to meet health and safety legislation. This kills off anything which may be harmful during pregnancy, so it is safe.

Sushi is safe as per the link from cocoachannel. To be on safe side, have only eaten it in proper restaurants that look clean and where it has been prepared to order etc and not from take-out places where it has been sitting in a box on a shelf for a while.

I've eaten it from Pret, and also from our local Japanese restaurant. I read somewhere that it is always deep frozen in Japan too - someone with stories from the Toyko fish market! Only make your own if you've frozen it first.

I was going crazy without it so I was soooo glad to find out it was OK.
