IJust Want A Bath!!! What Do You Miss During Pregnancy?

My back is achey and I haven't been sleeping properly for ages. I would really, really, really, really love a soak in a nice warm bath, but I am not allowed because of my waters breaking early in my last pregnancy (14+5) and infection risks. Sad It is so tempting to just have one, chances are things would be fine, but it's obviously just not worth the risk, if something happened after I'd never forgive myself. I am 13+4 today, so only 25 weeks or so to go... (hopefully!)

What do you miss whilst pregnant?

I miss not feeling/being sick all the time. 15 weeks now and I'm still nauseous for 24 hours a day. Which leads me to missing being able to enjoy food!

I miss pate, especially as ds2 is obsessed with pate and so I am frequently having to make him pate sandwiches which really takes the piss TBH!

I miss smoking and getting drunk with my friends! Not something I did very often but was nice to have the option.

I miss being my usual happy, easy going self and have currently become a miserable, antisocial bitch! Blush (In case you couldn't guess that from the tone of my post so far!!).

I have been having hot baths though. I have no heating in my bathroom so if the water wasn't properly hot I would freeze! I've not actually been told by any medical professional that I shouldn't have hot baths though, I think it must be something fairly new, and have only read it on MN and I have been told I shouldn't believe what I read on the internet so AFAIA it is perfectly safe to have hot baths!! I have had a temperature over 37c quite frequently in this pg anyway, most evenings in fact, so don't see the odd hot bath is going to make much difference.

Second pregnancy here (DS 14 months so I was pg until Oct 2009 and already on the next one) and I'm just missing NOT BEING PREGNANT!

Just to add as there's quite a bit about eating and drinking on this thread - with the exception of booze, which I limit to about a glass of wine a month, I have pretty much ignored dietary guidelines in both pregnancies. I even had some homemade pate when I fancied it. There's enough 'advice' thrown at new mums without having to go through 9 months of guilt before the baby is even out...

LittleMumSmall · 08/01/2011 18:14

Oops, that should read 2008! Also miss having a brain...

Cyclebump · 09/01/2011 11:42

So many things I miss.

Am now 28 weeks and I miss the most:

Being able to turn over in bed, get up from sitting etc without shooting pains in my lady area.

Spontaneous sex in whatever position I want and ahem orgasms without immediate Braxton Hicks!

Large glasses of red wine to be had while gossiping with the girls.

Cycling. I'm normally a road cyclist in London and I so miss being able to just get on my bike and go where I want, especially as I don't drive.

Being able to wear my normal clothes.

I'm sure it will all be worth it but it's so easy to forget the end goal when you're having a miserable few days.

Right now, I mostly miss being able to take drugs that make a cold bearable.
I've now been down for a week, and have had the worst sore throat ever, and all I was allowed (according to MW and pharmacists) was paracetamol, honey, lemon and gargling with salt water. Not even Strepsils to take the edge of the pain! No wonder it takes forever to get over this...

LotteryWinnersOnAcid · 09/01/2011 23:04

Thanks for the cheesy tip, Stiffy. I have eaten it hot actually. More of a gorgonzola than a stilton fan but I will probably be eating a lot of all of them to make up for what I have missed, in a couple of weeks!

Hot toddy for you JBrd - hot honey and lemon with a tiny dash of whisky. It's the whisky that helps numb the throat. Very effective, I have tested.

wintersniffle · 09/01/2011 23:34

Getting down on the floor to play with DS without groaning. Being able to get back up again without groaning.

Being able to carry DS around the place.

Having my stomach underwater in the bath.

Alcohol (copious quantities, one unit just isn't the same Blush).

Energy and just not being sick all day.

I'm 39+5 so not long now but sadly seem to have gone off brie forever, I was longing to have some when I was pregnant with DS but as soon as I'd had him went off the idea and still don't fancy it. Not sure what happened as I used to love the stuff Confused.

nickstermum · 10/01/2011 10:50

BRIE BRIE BRIE Grin thats all i want to eat!

Instead i am making do with weetabix which is the other thing i want to eat Grin

eastegg · 10/01/2011 12:43

I had a lovely boiled egg pretty much every morning of my pregnancy with the white fully cooked but the yolk still runny. Think it's fine if they're lion stamped. I was nauseous and went off so many things in the early days but that and a bowl of cereal were my morning saviours.

For me it was not sleeping on my front.

frida75 · 10/01/2011 13:09

I miss sleeping on my front!!! And I miss not feeling sick - I can't remember what its like not to have that gross taste in my mouth and that bilious feeling! I'm 20 weeks now so half way there now :)

DastardlyandSmugly · 10/01/2011 13:14

I've always missed the food things - oysters, sushi, smelly cheeses, bloody steaks and pate.

MedicalEd · 10/01/2011 13:54

I miss stilton and runny French cheeses.
Red wine with rare roast beef.
Soft boiled egg and soldiers.
(husband has long list of what I want to eat soon after baby arrives!)
Being able to bend in the middle.

Pasturised soft cheese is still a no-no as it can be cross contaminated with listeria and will breed in it where as it can't live in hard cheese.
Undercooked shellfish and raw (never been frozen fish) risk is parasites.
Runny eggs risk is salmonella.

LittleDonkin · 10/01/2011 14:35

I missed stilton and not being able to get comfy on the sofa!

I was also gutted that the one time the pepsi max at blackpool pleasure beach was open was when i was 8 weeks pregnant! I had been to the pleasure beach at least 5 times in the past 2 years and the blumming thing was always closed due to high winds!

ItsMeYourCathy · 10/01/2011 16:28

Cried whilst fondling my lovely black skinny jeans the other day - I really miss those..... Sad

I agree with the 'proper sex' comment - am terrified of feeling the baby move in the middle of it!

Merlot. Lots of it.

Massage - although I may have whined about this to good effect as recieved a pre-natal massage voucehr in a posh spa for Xmas. DH not deaf after all!!! Grin

nickstermum · 10/01/2011 19:24

ooh massage in pg is fab........Grin

Xmasevie · 02/02/2011 20:34

Sex, wine, strong black coffee, tea and sex.

lolajane2009 · 02/02/2011 20:41

lol food i have aversions to at the moment, i'm eight weeks. but mainly chicken and carrots. they were a staple before my pregnancy and I can't stomach them now.

flamegirl77 · 02/02/2011 21:07

I'm 10 weeks PG and my husband and I have agreed not to tell anyone until the end of the first trimester in case anything goes wrong (touch wood). I feel bad about not telling people and also for saying 'yes, we'll do this in October' to people at work when I hopefully won't be there! I am missing being able to be open with people, if that makes sense. Not long now though.

And going for 'one drink' which turns into five.

harrygracejessica · 03/02/2011 10:47

A full nights sleep!!

To stay awake past 9pm!

a bath! I have SPD and cant get in or out very well!

Laying on my front!

A bit of alcohol - went on a family holiday at 8 weeks so missed all the drinking then at crimbo and then new year! I dont drink much anyway but having the choice is nice.

Stangirl · 03/02/2011 15:53

I ignore all the dietary advice but find I don't fancy a lot of the food I normally would.

I miss not being able to get royally plastered.

theonlyhb2 · 03/02/2011 16:09

drinking pots of tea and eating masses of cake with my best friend....... i cant stomach much as it just comes back up, get full really quick when I can eat....in fact, just a whole cop of tea would be nice!
