Hey there 40 + 3 and head is not engaged, no contractions, bleeding piles and feeling quite sorry for myself. Has anyone any advice, all would be welcome. Just want to see my baby and make sure its ok.

Honestly, do what you want. You have every right to think only of you.

Nothing will change the fact that your baby will come when ready. A normal pregnancy is 37-42 weeks so not even overdue really.

Try and do things that make you happy. It won't be more than days now. Engaged heads mean nothing. Your baby will move down when it's ready to be born.

Hang in there, not long to go.

have you been offered a sweep?

i've had two and they haven't done much for me, but it could work for you.

40+13 here and i know exactly how you are feeling.

beebee1978 · 05/01/2011 21:44

Hi im 40+2 with my 1st baby and midwife gave me a sweep yesterday. She said baby head is as engaged as it can be and that she could of broke my waters. Had a few good twinges on and off all day yesterday but nothing at all today. Got another sweep booked for next Tuesday and to be induced on the 15th just in case but she thinks i will have him by then. They won't let any go over 40+12 were i live. Good luck ladies

i also have really bad pain in the left side of my face around my eye and cheek bone??
iv had no braxtons no pains no show no nohtingg
just wish baby would hurry up!!!

VegasBride · 06/01/2011 17:03

Well MW could not do a sweep, she said she could not tilt cervix as head not engaged. You just kind of think your on your own so its good to hear all your stories. In my area NI they don't let you go over term + 10, I would like to just go naturally and would probably avoid induction if piles were not so bad. Good luck ladies, any new arrival updates would be encouraging :)

hi all Smile im 40+3 today. what a shame u couldn't have a sweep vagasbride as mine has helped a little my mucus plug has been slowly coming away. is this your 1st baby? because they usually say that 1st babies head is engaged a few weeks before labour and subsequent ones can be just prior to labour. ive spend all day cleaning today to see if it will bring on labour, had a few twinges so hopefully something will happen soon. Smile

VegasBride · 06/01/2011 21:20

Yes first baby but a biggun so MW says which is maybe why its not engaged yet, guess we will just have to wait and see what happens

ah you have my sympathy! dc2 was 9 days over and i tried everything! walking, sweeps, curry, sex, cleaning! it was when i gave up trying that he came lol. my hospital had booked me in for induction at 10 days but i called and said i didn't want induced to 14. thay said their policy was 10 and max 12 but that if i came in to be checked on day 12 and they were happy they might let me go to 14. are you going to the royal too?

:)

mumatron · 07/01/2011 15:52

vegasbride i posted here at 7.40 saying my 2nd sweep hadn't worked, then baby was born at 3.40 am!

you never know, things could get moving quicker than you expect.

VegasBride · 07/01/2011 18:46

nicm - no I am in craigavon and I think ten is the limit. Congrats mumatron on your new arrival

small world vegasbride, that's not too far from us either! i would ask and see if you don't want to be induced. it was a community midwife from lagan valley that told me you could go to 14 days and could refuse to be induced. good luck, hope baby comes soon for you!

:)

babymommaa · 12/01/2011 11:15

im still here! over due now 8 days!!! this is so unfair im booked in for inducement on sunday but didnt want this with my 1st :(
had sweep yesterday and nothing
im guttedddddd

thefurryone · 12/01/2011 11:30

Hi Vegasbride, I'm in NI and only 26 weeks but have already mentioned how keen I am not to be induced pre-42 weeks to a midwife, she said it was entirely up to me and that they would offer monitoring if I didn't want to be induced. That was at the Ulster though.

midori1999 · 12/01/2011 11:37

I'm booked at the Ulster too and had my last babies at The Royal. (not overdue though, sorry!)

They can't make you agree to be induced, only give their advice and opinions about what is best for baby and you.
