Humidifier AND dehumidifier - in the same room?!?

Over the last cold spell, a lot of water has condensed on our bedroom window pane and sill and unsightly black mold has grown. This is the second winter we have had this problem...

Now aside from it being ugly and needing a good cleaning, I am aware of the potential health risks and with baby due within the next two weeks, I want to keep the room as free of allergens/spores as possible. So, a dehumidifier seems the longer-term solution to prevent build up again... (or so I think after some googling. Still unclear if it should be a tiny one sitting on the window sill, or one for the whole room?)

BUT THEN....

It seems the humidifiers are actually what baby needs - especially during winter months when they babies get snuffly and chesty coughs....

So, I am mightily confused... How do I balance these conflicting needs?

Is there any point getting anything? Or will regular scrubbing with a bleach/water solution be enough?

Hi,

We had a similar problem with condensation and mould in our old house. We bought a large-ish (about 2' tall) dehumidifier for the bedroom and it really helped, we only ran it in the day when we were out of the room as it was a bit noisy. I haven't ever used a humidifier, I'd be surprised if you need one in the UK as our weather is pretty damp anyway. Now in new house we've got mouldy windows but not as bad, so I think I'll just try to clean them regularly (easier said than done!).

Ah thanks Zimbah!

May just be that regular scrubbing of sills is the solution for us too then....

Just noticed that I have made two separate posts about the same subject.....

Talk about a pregnancy addled brain.... Confused
