Hi all just basically what the thread says is it safe to take? All it says on the bottle is consult with doctor or pharmacist but its a bit late in the day for that and I can't wait till tomorrow! I'm assuming its ok to take but just wondered if anyone knew for definite.

Can you try NHS Direct and ask

I seem to remember that I could only take buttercup syrup.

Oh I never thought of checking online. I'll see what it says. Thanks x

Hi. The evidence says that cough mediceine is actually of no medical benefit whatsoever. However if it makes you feel better for having it then go for it. I certainly wouldnn't give ant codeine based ones to a child.
paracetamol and honey and lemon drinks are particularly beneficial.

The boots own brand one for dry coughs says on the bottle it's safe if pregnant, I checked with midwife and she says the same. It stops me coughing which is a lifesaver Grin

Oh i'll need to get myself a bottle of that then! This constant coughing is doing my head in and my stomach twinges every time i cough! By the way when did your midwife get in touch with you? I'm 10-11 weeks and still nothing!

i bought buttercup but didn't take it, can't remember why though but something cropped up on a google search that made me leave it. i took store brand chesty cough stuff, can't remember the exact spelling of the main ingredient but am sure it began with gui......

i spoke to nhs direct after 4 weeks of v.bad coughing and she said sit in steamy bathroom for 15-20mins several times a day. the best i could manage was a humidifier overnight, lots of hot honey and lemon.
