Early Scan

Hi, midwife popped by my house today to give me a pregnancy pack. She told me I have a scan appointment in a couple of days time when I will be only 8 + 6 at the hospital. Appointment hasn't arrived yet, as post has been so slow. I'm really confused as to why scan being done so early. No problems with the pregnancy but I am under consultant obstetrician for thyroid issues and arthritis.

Tried to call today but no answer, will try again tomorrow. Does anyone know what will be able to be seen at only 8 + 6.

Thanks very much :)

My booking scan was at 9+1. I am under consultant care, so I think they do book you a bit early if that's the case, will you be seeing a consultant at the same time? I did and see them every 4 weeks, (although 5 week gap this time) so I missed my 12 week scan as next will be at 14+1 and 12 weeks was over Christmas/NY anyway.

I could see a lot on the 9 week scan compared to the one I had at 6+4. Baby was moving quite a bit and we could see what were the start of the arms and legs. We also saw the hearbeat clearly.

Thanks very much midori - that's really helpful. Yes I assume that I will see the consultant at the appointment at the same time. It must be early as classed as high-risk. Was just worried that the views wouldn't be very clear/informative but that's good you managed to see quite a bit :)

I'm under the consultant, I had to have a booking appt at 8 weeks, but generally they don't do scans until 12 weeks unless it depends on the area. I didn't actually see the consultant until 20 weeks, although having a high bmi and on meds for bp, I am higher risk anyway.

Have you had the appointment through yet? She could have been getting confused with your dates. I know I had to have an early pregnancy scan with this one about 9 weeks (due to scare), and it looked like a bean but you could see the heart clearly. I would assume it will be an internal one as they usually are at that point. I would check, as if it is internally you need an empty bladder. Something nobody told me, so I had been drinking bottles of water thinking I was doing right lol.
