26 weeks preg scare - need reassurance!

Hi, I'm a long time reader but decided to post for the first time due to a pregnancy scare two days ago. I admit I'm being very nervous about the whole thing but would appreciate some reassurance from anyone out there.

I'm just 26 weeks pregnant. I had some clear dampness in my knickers but thought nothing of it - assumed it was normal dampness. Once home I started having low-down stomach ache - again thought nothing of it as assumed it was ligament pain/BH. I got into the bath to calm things down but when I got out and a small trickle running down my legs.

I immediately went to the labour ward where I was assessed. I had the swab and exam to see if there was any pooling but both came back negative. They did confirm that I was having mild contractions though and kept me in for the next 2 nights. I had meds to stop the contractions and I also had the steroids. The next day I had a scan which showed the amnio fluid level was normal and that my cervix was 3.5 cm long so we were reassured. The doctors said it was probably just a scare/bath water.

I'm home now but still fretting. I'm planning to stay in bed on and off for the next week (I've already phoned in sick) and I'm keeping an eye out for trickles etc. I feel damp but at the moment I dont have any obvious pooling etc. I've got my mobile and the labour ward phone numbers by me just in case.

Can anyone offer any advice/reassurance??

hi itmar,

I had two bouts of PV bleeding with mild contractions after a fall at 32 weeks, followed by the loss of my mucus plug at 34 weeks.

Also went in for monitoring (twice), extra scan, had steroids etc and am now 37 weeks.

Had some time off work and have been taking it easy.

Am going back to hospital this week for a further check and scan and MW has been very good at monitoring and supporting me. The labour ward (over the phone) have also been brilliant with their advice.

the advice I've been given is to go in to the hospital if i have any of the following symptoms:

Bleeding (either old brown blood or fresh red blood)
Contractions
Reduced fetal movements

I would imagine that advice would probably apply to you too - but do check with your MW and if in doubt phone them or the labour ward/delivery suite.

I had leakage and contractions a couple of weeks ago - hospital were very reassuring, told me to rest, monitor movements and go in if I had strong contractions (more than 4 painful over the course of an hour or increasing in frequency or intensity) or instantly if bleeding.

I've heard loads of reassuring stories about early contractions/amnio fluid leakage turning out fine so chin up :)

And if you're due April (26 weeks so I think you are?) come and join the April ante-natal thread.

Thanks Crystylline and GoldFrakkinceseAndMyrrh for your calming advice. I think whtat I need is just some reassurance without jumping immediately to the worst case scenario :) I'll check out the April antenatal thread and join in
