Has anyone got PG while EBF?

I am EBF my 4 month baby and have not had a period yet. Does anyone know if there's any danger I may get pregnant?

Yeah, you can. I did Wink

You can ovulate before you get your first period so you don't know when it could be. Don't rely on ebf if you don't want to get pg, its no guarantee.

i just found out I am 6 weeks pg. DD is 5 months.

Happens. Not to me... but remember being pg and registering at the hospital, only to be asked by the midwife what contraception we were using. Confused I pointed to my belly & explained I already was pg! Midwife told me that following birth I could be very fertile & that many women get pg by accident even when EBF. As it turned out she needn't have been concerned... a new baby was the only contraception we needed Wink!

Attilla - hope you're ok with your pregnancy.

whysolate · 01/01/2011 22:20

Yes. I thought it wasn't possible but I was EBF every 3 hours religiously. I got pregnant when my DD was 3 months old. DS was 10 weeks early and therefore have a 9 month age gap between youngest DC's!

Atilla - I love the small age gap! (now that they are both 3!) Good Luck

Candinha - Do a test. It's definitely possible.

I think it is unlikely provided you follow the following rules:

You feed on demand at all times including during the night
You don't give supplemental feedings (including solids or formula or expressed breastmilk)
Baby does not use a dummy for comfort
Baby is less than 6 months old

See here

My periods didn't come back until DS was 20 months old. But no method of contraception is 100% and there will always be exceptions even with the pill, condoms etc.
Depends how comfortable you are with any risk of pregnancy.

Thanks Guys... I thought my age gap was small (17 months), not sure I would cope with 4 kids and an even smaller gad between the last two!!! Will be more careful, low libido should help Wink

I exclusively bf but with my 3rd dc my periods returned when she was 6 weeks old so I must have ovulated when she was only 4 weeks old Shock took no chances after dd4 and had a mirena coil fitted 3 weeks postpartum!

Do not really on EBM for contraception unless you are happy to pregnant again now.
