I am 17+1 and have woken up for the third morning in a row with a rotten headache. Now, I know you can take paracetamol and I've taken one on Tues and one yesterday but I don't want to take them regularly. Could it be down to dehydration and me just needing to force myself to drink more water?

hiya
it is common to have headaches in the first trimester and also could be your bodys way of telling you to drink more as you will need more fluids throughout the whole pregnancy

I don't know if you've tried that 4head thing but it's a cooling stick that you rub over your forehead - works really well for me!

you might want to also try having a coffee - caffeine can sometimes help.

Hi you could definitely be dehydrated, I had some awful headaches that paracetamol just didn't touch when I tried cutting down drinking to stop me waking up to go to the toilet at night. In the end I decided that waking up was preferable!

I also get headaches from clenching my jaw too tightly when I'm stressed, most of the time I don't notice I'm doing it, so worth trying to loosen your jaw in case you're doing that.

Could it be your pilow? Maybe the changing shape of your body means you sleep slightly differently and are tensing your neck/shoulders?

When I changed from using two pillows to only one, the headaches I had on waking disappeared. YOu could try experimenting anyway, and good luck. I've had lots of headaches this pregnancy and they suck.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I will try them all. I have certainly been drinking plenty today so am expecting a disturbed night for plenty of peeing! :o Hoping that today is the last day of this headache as it's really starting to run me down.

Hi,

I totally sympathise with you. Pre-pregnancy I suffered from awful migraines and the tablets I normally take are not safe during pregnancy. So I just had to take paracetamol.

However sometimes during my first trimester the pain was unbearable so I decided to up my intake of water and even though I'm a huge fan of cheddar I decided to cut it out and fingers crossed I'm now 23 weeks and not had a bad head since around 11 weeks!

Hope your headaches ease x
