7lbs at 36+4 how big could it get?

just had a growth scan this morning, and they've estimated the baby currently weighs 7lb, how much bigger could it get in the next few weeks?

DD1 was born at 40+1 and was 8lb 4oz, I was induced with her due to bp, which isn't a problem so far this time, so I'm anticipating going overdue....

so with possibly over 5 weeks to go how big could this baby get?

Depends on whether you think the growth scan is accurate. I know countless women on here and in rl who were told at growth scans they were having whoppers and it turned out to be rubbish.

SIL is my favourite example. Was told all of hers were going to be massive, she'd struggle due to her small frame etc. Biggest was overdue and weighed 6lbs 12oz.

And tbh there's nothing wrong with a bigger than average baby in most cases. Gravity makes them easier to birth actually. Your body tends to make a baby you can deliver. Head circumference and the position of the baby are what makes the difference. My average sized baby with its average sized head was so ridiculously stuck that she was unbirthable.

I wouldn't worry.

I was told my Ds2 was 6lb 5oz at a 34 week growth scan, and to expect an 8-9lb baby.

He was born at 40 weeks on the dot weighing 10lb 10oz!

Was a bit of a surprise as my previous two were 7lbers!

I did have a very 'easy' birth with DD, so I've not really got any worries about birthing a big baby, and my mother had 3 of us - just over 8lb, just over 9lb and just over 10lb, so there's a certain inevitability about me having a 9lb+ baby this time!

hmm. they told me dd1 was scanning 9lb13 and could be a pound heavier, so booked me for an elcs (i'm quite smaqll and the ob said he didn't want the responsibility of me labouring naturally)
she was 8lb6.

growth scans are notoriously unreliable tbh. with the next two i ignored them and went for vbac.

my friend however, was told her baby was about 9lb. she didn't believe them as her previous ds had been a ten pounder and she felt bigger. they wouldn't let her have a cs. cue almost 11 pounder with a broken clavicle and her with a damaged pelvis.

(that said, dd2 had a broken clavicle too, and she was only 9lbs...)

anyway, good luck, however big or small your baby is - you never know, the growth scan might be right in your case - there's always a first time!

( they scanned me every day for the last 2 weeks with dd1 btw - it was a total pita having to get to the hospital every day)

SIL was induced at 10 days, told that her DS1 was massive and wouldn't be safe to wait anyway longer due to his immense size (based on growth scan). He was exactly 8lbs.

I was told that DD2 would be around 10lb which scared the crap out of me as I am only 5ft 2. She was 7lb 5oz. Don't believe everything you are told :-)
