Feels like stomach spasms - is this the baby?

Hello,

Maybe a stupid question, but how do you know if it's the baby you can feel moving around?

I've started to get what I can only describe as being like short stomach spasms. Not really bubbling, like others have described. More like a short pulsating spasm.

Do you think this might be the small one?

Sounds like it to me, mine was definitely not the 'bubbling' I've heard described.

I used to say mine was like when I used to go fishing with my dad, and he'd give me the styrofoam container of worms to hold. You could sort of feel them all moving around from the outside!

I reckon the spasms are a little kick or punch, yay for you!

Probably. How far along are you? I felt my first baby at 17wks when swimming (while stomach muscles stretched) but I believe that's pretty early.

Later, it felt like the bubble in a lava lamp popping when it hits te top.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'm 22 weeks and have an anterior high placenta, so have been led to understand that I might not feel the baby so much early on...

Caring, I had had an anterior placenta too and was also very overweight. Despite that I started feeling things around 16-18 weeks, but it definitely got stronger and more consistent past week 20.

Mine felt like 'twinges' at first. Or you know when your eye flickers/spasms uncontrollably? That's how it felt.

Also, I was surprised by how low and deep it felt - initially I wondered if it was my bowel :)

In fact, at 25 weeks it still feels the same, but interspersed with more definite movements.

Thanks. It does sound like it's the baby making himself/herself known. It's just like a small pulsating spasm, blink and you miss it!

Sounds like it to me. The first movements I experienced felt like a muscle twitch, like when your eye goes!

Oooh, how exciting! Bringing back lovely memories of feeling DD move inside.

I was about 21 weeks with an anterior placenta when i first felt baby move, and as you have said, it's more like a pulsating spasm.
Even now, at 32 weeks, i only occasionally get the punches and kicks i had expected to be feeling. Baby seems to be more of a squirmer/wriggler.
