Worried about ectopic pregnancy

I'll try to make this short...

I'm nearly 7 weeks pg and I've had a bad chest infection for about a month. About 2 weeks ago I pulled a muscle in my ribs coughing, have done it before, didn't think anything of it. Was painful for the two weeks but over the weekend the pain has spread from under my left boob right round my upper back, across my shoulders and neck. If I lie down I feel like my chest is being crushed so I'm sleeping sitting up. It hurts if i breathe in or cough. At the moment my right shoulder is really aching.

Today it all got too much and I spent most of the day in a&e. They couldn't do any x-rays obviously and actually didn't seem too bothered about the pain, which was really the reason I was there. They asked about abdominal pain, bleeding, headaches and sickness, none of which I have, and they sent me off with more anti biotics.

But since I got home my right side has started to hurt. I don't know if it's just the pain shifting around like it has been or something more sinister. I have no bleeding or cramps etc but I don't know what else I should be looking out for. Am getting myself into a bit of state now :(

Of course I will go back to the hospital tomorrow if I'm still worried but I wondered what anyone thought. I keep thinking of spookycharlotte...

I'm sorry I have no idea, but i have a lot of pain in my lower right abdomen and wonder if it is an ectopic as well. If you do go will you ask what the symptoms are?

MrsCratchit · 21/12/2010 17:52

Hi. I've had an ectopic and it felt like really bad wind all over my abdomen and then acute pain when pressing down on the left side where my tube was. I also had slight bleeding, which got heavier in the hours between my diagnosis (by internal scan) and my laproscopy to remove my left tube. Check out ectopic.org.uk for more info.

MrsCratchit · 21/12/2010 17:54

ps. I actually had more one sided pain, sometimes on left, sometimes on the right, with my current pg (am 31 weeks).

Rockinrobin Are you near an early pregnancy unit? They would probably do a scan to put your mind at rest. The pain normally starts in your stomach and if it spreads to your shoulder it is time for a&e. As you have already been there, I think it is better to speak to epu. It is bad that they didn't deal with your worries.

PLease let us know how you get on and let me know if you have any more questions.

santababy2b · 21/12/2010 18:24

p.s. I didn't have any bleeding or spotting. The site mrscratchit suggests is good, but please avoid google as it is info overload and will just make your worries worse!

RockinRobinBird · 21/12/2010 18:44

Thanks everyone. Yes, hospital down the road has an EPU so I will speak to them tomorrow if I'm worried. My gut instinct is that it isn't an EP, I've had the shoulder pain for a few days and nothing else. I checked out the website that MrsC recommended and they said that's usually the last symptom. Plus I've got so much pain round my upper back and chest that it seems obvious it's linked to that, although there's no law that says you can only have one thing wrong at a time...

I did make the mistake of googling, it doesn't help does it!

It really doesn't :) Hope the chest infection and pain sort themselves out quick. The first few weeks are scary enough without being poorly too!

If it helps any - shoulder pain is really comon with a chest infection. I once had a collapsed lung too and had an awful pain in my shoulder.

I agree with the others - early scan if you're concerned - the worry won't be doing you any good. Good luck!
