Hi, my wife is 9 weeks pregnant and has developed a slight 'fishy' odour which is quite strong at times. is this a normal thing for some pregnant women? this is our first...my wife is 31, has had slight bleeding 2 weeks ago, her breasts have doubled almost :-) (!) and she has been sick/nauseous these past 2 weeks (and has had a craving at times for burger king!). please help!

I had this to such an extent that I was tested for Bacterial Vaginosis which is a common bacterial infection that some women can get due to the hormone changes. It turned out to be all clear and just one of those funny pregnancy things but it might be worth just getting a swab done to rule out BV.

Shouldn't your wife be asking these questions on here if she's concerned about her fishy odour!!!?? Very strange.

Leila, I was just concerned but obviously this want much of a prb as we had the second scan at 7 weeks+6 today and it is all good and healthy

Hi, I had Bacterial Vaginosis and yes it was a bit smelly Blush. I only found out as I had some bleeding at about 30 weeks and had to be treated.

I think it can be related to Thrush (in that recurrent thrush can cause it), but I could be wrong.

Worth mentioning it and getting a swab.

Good luck with the pregnancy

hi jinglebell - thankyou for that - the midwife came round yesterday just after our scan (which has really excited us). she took blood and urine samples. she suggested my wife may need to keep an eye on her blood count as it is a bit low (due to vomiting a lot apparently). nothing to worry about but my wife has booked to see her doc today. her urine is also a bit dark so maybe there is a little infection in there. apart from that the scan pic of our baby at 7 weeks and 6 days is a treasure... got us buzzing!
