Noooo its lovely!

Drinking milk helps I think.

LilRedWG · 18/12/2010 18:08

Gaviscon Advance works for me, but doesn't taste as good as normal Gaviscon. Rennie chewable are also fairly good.

nymphadora · 18/12/2010 18:10

Tums or boots own version are nicer

CardyMow · 18/12/2010 18:37

Zantac (which is ranatadine). Superb stuff. Gaviscon tastes like melted toothpaste. And as I dislike mint at the best of times, it tastes absolutely minging.

thefurryone · 18/12/2010 20:54

I'm sure you know but, just in case, there are two flavours. I'm nearly sick just at the thought of the aniseed but don't mind the peppermint.

TejasGal · 18/12/2010 21:42

I have found that the strawberry flavour of Gaviscon is a bit more palatable for me. Hard to find though - needs to be a big Boots!

Ladyopheliastar · 18/12/2010 21:42

Gaviscon is disgusting, the advanced, have to ask the pharmacist for is works best and lasts longest. I have to use that inbetween 2 ranitadine tablets a day prescribed by doctor. With the horrid Gaviscon chalky tablets I have them with a real mint to hide the chalkiness

faverolles · 19/12/2010 01:28

If you're suffering during the day, I find porridge for breakfast helps.
Any other rime, chewy rennies. (they're like pacers, or does that make me really old?)

1Catherine1 · 19/12/2010 02:30

For really bad heartburn/indigestion I will take the minty gaviscon tablets but I agree they're gross. For other times though I have the Rennie Ice (on offer at Tesco last time I went in). They're not bad, they just taste like slightly chalky mints but I find if I need them after food I have to eat between 4 and 6 to do what 2 gaviscon tablets will do.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 19/12/2010 13:45

Gaviscon is foul it has the texture of semen. Minty semen. I hate any flavour.

Rennies and tums fruit flavoured or otherwise are horrible. The soft, chewy ones make me gag and have a horrible aftertaste.

Drinking too much milk can make heartburn worse for some people.

I feel your pain. Right now I am on the fruit flavoured rennies as these are the least evil to me but I find avoiding trigger foods goes a long way to help with heartburn and my triggers are:

anything acidic such as oranges, satumas, tomatoes, fizzy drinks.

anything oily such as mackeral or anything fatty.

wholemeal bread and cereals. Porridge or weetabix sets it off in the mornings for me.

But I'd second ranitidine although midwives always shake their heads when I ask if it's ok to take whilst pregnant.

Megletitsnow · 19/12/2010 13:46

I loved the minty Gaviscon Blush.

littleyellowchicken · 19/12/2010 18:08

But it works! I don't care what it tastes like so long as it works. I wonder how many gallons of it I have consumed this pregnancy...?

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 19/12/2010 20:20

Ask your GP for a prescription for Omeprazole. It's marvellous - I wish I'd known about it 5 years and 4 pregnancies ago.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 19/12/2010 20:22

I also worked out with my first pregnancy (I didn't twig that I could get it on prescription so bought it myself) that I must've spent in the region of £1000 on it. I'm really not kidding - I got through gallons of the stuff right from the beginning of the pregnancy until DD was born.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 19/12/2010 23:53

What I hate most about Gaviscon is the crusty bits you get around the top of the bottle - they give me the heaves!

However, nasty as it is, I am bloody grateful that there is something that is deemed safe to take during pregnancy that actually seems to make a difference to reflux and heartburn.

Never, ever, buy the tablets though. I did last pregnancy, thinking they would be easier to carry around than a large bottle, and took one while driving. I nearly came off the road through retching! Tasted like lemon-scented loo cleaner.
